Is a null moden cable okay to connect from programmer to pc?

My Satellite Setup
Sky HD, TM6800HD, Manhattan Plaza ST550 and TM1500 CI+. 1.0m dish and 36v motor, Panasonic DVD HDD recorder and Panasonic video/DVD recorder. Sony G800 HD TV stand/surround system + Sony KDL40W2000. Infinity USB, Elvis, CAS1, CAS2.

Which programmer are you using? The Infinity uses a straight through serial for phoenix mode.

I'm not sure about that. I know it's a serial lead.

You can normally tell by looking at the sockets, the computers comm port has a male socket.

If the programmer has the exact same plug then it is likely that you need a null modem cable.
If the programmer has a female socket(opposite of the computer comm port) then it is likely you need a straight through serial cable.
