Is an amplifier worthwhile on your plane tracking system?

If you are enjoying watching the planes appear & disappear on your plane tracking system you might want to consider buying an amplifier

I put an Uputronics amp onto my system 24 hours ago and its made a huge difference to my range.

Some comparison splat tracks:

Before & after 30000+ ft (All rings at 20 mile range - the after pics are zoomed out further)

You won't know your self with the tcxo dongle :D

That's quite an impressive Splat.

Not bad considering Im in a valley so my splat tracks will never be as impressive as some of the lads who live on high ground.

Over the Xmas holiday I shall also be doing some work on the antenna. With a bit of luck I'll be able to get it raised a metre or so, possibly a little more.

An hour or so back I broke my record for number of aircraft seen on VRS - 13 :D

Which Uputronics amp are you using (will try something like that when my DC inserter arrives so that I can power an inline amp - I already have a couple of very cheap ones -and that inserter should be here in the next few days)?

@Chris1979 - haven't done anything about trying to get the Splat diagrams working for the last few days, having had many other things to sort out - and now that includes a completely f**ked front tyre (and, hopefully not the wheel rim as well?) after I hit a kerb hard this evening :( - but hopefully will get back to this in a day or so.

Hope you can sort out that wheel without breaking the bank.

I haven't had a good week either :( another uncle passed away a couple of days ago, I have 1 auntie left now, and she is not well.

Chris

I will be down to my local tyre place tomorrow morning - they are generally pretty good and relatively competitive price-wise (and that means it is definitely NOT not the local KwikF**k)

Hope you auntie gets better - know the feeling about relatives when there are only a very few left alive :(.

For my part, I don't think, now, that I have any uncles/aunts still alive (I know that there are none on my Mother's side, and I doubt that there are any on my Father's side, but can't be certain as I have totally lost contact with that side of my immediate ancestry)

This one:

Code:

Its powered off one of the spare usb ports on the old netbook Im using, although you could use a phone charger.

A LOT later!

I'm now, finally, looking at expanding use of the SDR dongle - but will probably the amp with the wideband discone and my airband scanner - so might well buy the Uptronics amp as I can mount that within a couple of metres of the antenna (now that is mounted on the same pole as the collinear up near the house eves, just outside the "office" where all the kit is (but it will have to wait 3 days until my credit card monthly period expires as I have already spent far too much this period - car insurance for 2 cars for a start!)

I'm also having the 1090 Mhz amp with the ceramic filter and the bias tee option.
Have anyone tried to play with the voltage? I've got best message rate at 25,99V
