Hi everyone,

I have just saddened myself and my enthuisasm has been dampened about going for a motorised system or at least a 3LNB setup since I looked at the channel line up available ! There seems to be very little in English anywhere, I dont mind foreign mature content ! but surely there must be some english films out there available for viewing, I ma new to all this so thought i would drop this in the general area !
What do you guys do for English based viewing or at least subtitles.

Cheers
Will

Where did you get the channel line up and what receiver do you have/ plan to have?

I find plenty of English language channels to watch.

HI
thanks for reponse I was looking on kingofsat.net at the hotbird and Astra most were coming up as alternate languages. Maybe I missed something, so there are a few good channels to watch then, movies soaps music etc..
I am planning on getting a Technomate TM8000 HD HC HI box and 85CM clear dish at the bottom of the garden, if it will see over my roof ! house faces south back of it is North facing ! garden is only 8M long so dish might need to be 1M up in the air on a pole I think !

Cheers
Will

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...
My Location
Near Pontop Pike, Co. Durham
There are often multiple audio streams with some of the channels, so you can select what language you want to hear the channel in (usually there's an Audio button on your remote)... :)

Lets be brutally honest here - theres sod all movies in English in the clear these days and the range of compromised scrambled channels carrying English movies varies from month to month. At Christmas there was nothing available for several weeks, but in the Spring there was loads available.

This is something you have to accept in the hobby... there are time when you will have too many channels to choose from, other times you will be struggling and glad you have your SKY or FTA digi box.

To keep your options open and give yourself the best chance of always having a nice choice, its important to keep your Keys and Cams up to date, and keep an eye on the scene as it were :)

and obviously keep logging in here, to either tell us... or be told whats going on :)

I don't know what you lot are on about because with my TM1500 and patch I can view loads of English films from Multivision and TPS on Hotbird, to Digital + on Astra 1, to Digital + and CABO on Hispasat.

All the new film's most of them in English, and if you want the History Channel and the National Geography channels they are on 15 west Telestar.

The bigger the dish, the more programmes in your own tongue.

Just remember patching does not guarantee English films! :D As mentioned before the choice of channels available varies almost day by day.

Probably best treated as a hobby with the bonus of something to watch occasionally. That way, you're never totally disappointed!

Very true Norm, just remembering last December and there was nothing about then all of a sudden we were hit with about five major networks and all the film's you could want to watch.

But you have to look for these network's and make it happen, it's no good sitting on your backside and waiting for something to appear.

Personally, I would go for TM1500CI+ Super or Echolink FTE777 if your on a budget.

The clear 85cm aint worth the money. Go large 1.2m, paint it to blend in with the surroundings and motorise it.

I have seen so many 1.2m dishes on fleabay lately - Pickup from Nottingham £10.50, from watford £21.50 ... Silly money for a great dish...

Add a resonable lnb (invacom c120 0.2dB and feedhorn) and you will get all the channels you will need... (via patch or FTA) Films on 26east are usually subtitled in Arabic and even on Spanish and German providers (via patch) they keep the original soundtrack... You will hopefully have access to EPL football, loadsa mucky stuff and lots of film...

You will have so much you won't be able to find anything to watch :-rofl2

Unfortunately unless you run the gauntlet the max you can have is 1.00 mtr without planning permission.

Your right NitroB as my mate and me picked up a lovely 1.2 dish with motor for £25 three week's ago from Maidstone in Kent.
He needed to get a V-Box to go with it, and if short of cash can alway's use the Technomate TM1000D as that is patchable and cost's from only £59.:)

But beware those dreaded word's "planning permission" as Topper say's.
