heya,

first things first, many thanks to all the regular posters on this site, i referred to it lots a few months ago when i was setting my my dish, and it was a huge help.

my wife is italian, so i decided to set up a system to get italian tv for her. at the moment, everything is working fine, we're getting rai 1, 2, 3, rai gulp for our toddler, so it's all good!

the only thing is, i'd love to get la7, but its scrambled. if i get a tivusat box next time we're visiting her family, can i get it, or is it still scrambled? with tivusat do you get films too, or is that on subscription? i found this link posted by denis1501,
Code:
http://en.kingofsat.net/pack-tivusat.php
which seems to suggest you get films, la7 and rai premium, or am i reading it wrong?

also, the epg on the fortec star box is rubbish! is the interface better on other boxes? we have a humax foxsat for english tv, which i love. any recommendations for a good italian system? and sorry for the really basic question, but is tivusat a subscription service, or kindof like an italian freesat?

we have an italian address and tax number, so that side of things is fine. i'm handy enough, but techie stuff just flies over my head! :confused

thanks for all the help, and sorry again for all the questions at once!

My wife is Italian too, I'm originally from Cork myself. So we have something in common!
Tivu'sat is like Freesat, there are no subscription fees. And with tivu'sat you will receive ALL of the channels on that link I posted + any others that become available, ie La5, which has already launched on terrestrial here in Italy and will be on sat shortly. So your child will be able to watch Rai YoYo and Boing! And of course La7 will be open too.
To be honest, you're best bet for an Italian set-up would probably be to buy the Tivu'sat CAM and card bundle (around €80), that way you can choose your own decoder which of course must have a Common Interface slot. Maybe there's already a CI slot on your Fortec Star?? But if you just want a Tivu'sat box and card then these are available here for around €100 now. I can't comment on the epg as I don't have one.
Having the address and codice fiscale makes things a lot easier when it comes to activating the card which can be done on line.
regards
D.

€100 ?

That's good - after a few weeks of uncertainty it looks like we will be able to take our holiday to Lazio & Puglia in June, so I'll get SWMBO to use her Rome Rellies Codice Fiscale (If we get the time and opportunity).

Hi Tivu',
Yes, you can pick one up for around €100 now, saw an I-CAN model for that price in my local tv store here in Lazio yesterday. And the telesystem model was €109. CAM's are starting to arrive in the stores now, unfortunately not yet in mine. But they assured me stock would arrive any day.

thanks for the info, i think i'll defo pick up a box next time we're over there. the fortec is a very basic receiver, no card slot as far as i can see..

if i put the CAM and card bundle into my humax pvr would it work? would be nice to be able to record stuff, with a small baby we're in bed by half nine!

All I can tell you is that the CAM and card combo should work in any modern satellite receiver with a common interface.
What part of Italy is your wife from?

I am another Irishman (Belfast & Donegal) with an Italian wife (Naples) with a codice fiscale and a family address in Naples. We have a Humax VACI 5300 (six years old) pointed at Hotbird 13 degrees East. It has both a smart card slot and a CAM slot. We can receive RAI 1,2,3, Italia 1, Rete 4, and Canale 5 (although this latter one was hard to find after its original channel numbers were scrambled). We have never found La7 FTA. However, many programmes on Canale 5 seem to be scrambled but available on Tivusat. My question is whether I need to replace the STB with a Tivusat decoder or would the smart card or CAM work on the Humax? If I want to receive HD channels, I expect that I would need to upgrade the STB but there are not too many Italian HD programmes available yet to make the expense worthwhile. My sister-in-law is coming to stay in August and she might be able to buy the card/CAM in Italy. However, second question, can we buy it in the UK now? Regards and thanks for any information. I can't say with 100% certainty but the CAM and card combo should work with the Humax. Yes, you would need to upgrade to a HD receiver with the CAM/card to receive HD channels. The CAM and card combo can be bought for 85 euros over the counter in Italy and activated online. If you decide to buy a tivusat decoder instead it will cost you around 100 euros. La7 can be found fta on atlantic bird but not on hotbird.

I would like to update my earlier post. Last August my sister-in-law brought me a smart card and I had no difficulty in activating it on-line by using my father-in-law's codice fiscale. However, it would not work in my Humax VA-CI 5300 because the card slot is Viacess and I did not have a suitable CAM. The VA-CI 5300 can operate with a Nagravision CAM. We went to Naples for Christmas and New Year where I bough a Samsung 2 Smartcam for 50 euros. I am pleased to report that this worked straightaway when we got home on Monday evening. We can now see all the RAI channels - Premium, Movie, RAI 4 and RAI 5 as well as IRIS. However, it cannot seem to decrypt La7 on Hotbird 13 E. In all, we are very pleased with the results and thank everyone on this forum for the useful information that enabled us to get a workable system.

You sure you're trying to open the correct La7??? One is Sky Italia NDS and the other is Tivu'sat. The one you need is 11541, V, 22000, 5/6.

Hi Denis

Thanks, again, for even more help! I have two channels for La7 and, armed with your further information, I will make another check and report back.

Hello Denis

You really are a star! I checked the networks for the two versions of La7 and both were Sky. I searched the co-ordinates that you so helpfully supplied and sure enough I found the correct signal. Better still, my smart card opened it straightaway. So, my wife is happy and therefore, I am happy! I seem to have the full set of Tivusat channels operating normally. This forum has been a Godsend for cutting out what would surely have been ages spent on research if I had had to find out everything for myself. Thank you so much.

Hello again everyone. I have encountered a problem with RAI Premium. When I switch over to it, it knocks out the CAM and card and I cannot navigate to any of the other channels like RAI4, RAI5, La7, IRIS etc. They all return if I move to an open channel like RAI1, Rete4 etc. but RAI Premium stubbornly refuses to open in any circumstances - even after switching off the STB and re-booting it. Anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a fix?

I have managed to find out from an Italian forum that the problem is with the satellite broadcasts as the channel is available as normal on DTT. See this link

I don't have a satellite dish yet. Trying to figure out what the best option is.
My Location

Dear all,

I am new to satellite tv, to the extent that I don't have it yet, but I am considering whether to get it or not. I do not want to pay any subscription fee, so I'd like to get (HD) Freesat and, since we are Italian, we'd like to have tivusat as well. Here is the part where I might reveal my complete ignorance. Now, I understand from this very useful thread that you can get Tivusat by plugging a CAM into a decoder of your choice (to some extent at least). My question is: is it possible to get an HD freesat box and then plug the CAM with the TIVUSAT in when you want to watch it? Is it even possible to have Freesat and Tivusat at the same time, as I understand you need to align your dish with certain satellites and I suspect they might not be the same for the two...

I look forward to hearing from the experts!

Thanks
Andycolch

Freesat & Tivusat are transmitting off different satellite clusters - Freesat 28E, Tivusat 13E.

At the very minimum you need one dish with 2 lnb's offset from each other to give you both satellites, and an electronic switch box called a disecq switch..

No idea if the cam will work in a Freesat box though. It probably should, but I wouldnt like to say for certain.
