Hi, I have the above motor and 80cm solid dish connected to a KAON digital
receiver.Since installation in June the motor has occasionally had
difficulty finding some sat positions. More recently the motor started to
sound like an old garage door in need of lubrication. Anyway a few nights
back the motor was having a problem with finding Astra2 @ 28*e. I tried
manually moving the dish using the receiver but the dish got so far then
died. Their should be an illuminated green light on the underside of the
motor indicating power from the receiver but this is not lit. The receiver
no longer displays any LNB power signal so I was wondering whether it was
the motor or my receiver at fault. I tried the receiver on my old Sky
Mini-Dish LNB and the receiver displayed a LNB power signal. My
understanding is that the motor uses the LNB power to move, so taking this
into consideration would I be correct in saying the motor is at fault and
not my receiver? Many thanks

Sounds like the motor is shot, particularly if it was making a lot of noise. Mine's been up for 12 months or so and is very quiet still.

Thanks rolfw. I've got the guys coming out on Friday to fault find the set up. I'll update then as to what was wrong but as you say my guess is the motor.

Is there a way I can confirm the receiver is pumping out the required 13V/18V for the motor? I ran a short coax from the receiver to an LNB. The receiver then displayed a signal strength of 15%. When I turned the LNB power off via the receiver menu the signal went to 0%. Switched back on and 15% again. Does this confirm the receiver is pumping out the power required for the motor? Is the LNB power supply and the 13V/18V required to turn the motor one and the same? Thanks again.

You can measure the voltages at the LNB end of the cable to see if they are reaching the motor, if you havent got access to a volt meter, you can use a bulb from a car lamp.

Well it was not the receiver. In the end it was the coax going into the motor that had been snagged by one of the dish clamp nuts. If only I was not so bleeding afraid of heights I could have worked that one out myself. Never mind, at least I now have it all up and working again and looking forward to televised footy this weekend. Many thanks rolf for your assistance, keep up the good work.

Annoying, but cheaper than a new motor!

Enjoy your footy...
