I'm going to try the digital camera tonight, but I can't remember how to set it for an open shutter or a long term exposure.

Will be using the motor drive from my telescope to keep it fixed on the Perseus constellation, I would use that but it does not have a wide angle lens like my Cannon.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Mine will be if I don't go to bed now:rolleyes:

I can't see anything outside anyway, there's a haze in the sky that's in the way, I can see reasonably bright stars, but anything else is being swamped out by the sodium-orange glow from streetlights...

My wife and I dragged some reclining chairs down the garden and covered ourselves with blankets to protect ourselves from the mozzies.

We saw, or thought we saw as they were always just at the corner or vision, many wispy meteor trails but during the fifteen minutes we braved the bloodsuckers only saw three bright ones between the two of us. I knew it was time to come in when there was a high pitched buzz around both my ears!

The only sounds of wildlife I heard while sat out in the garden last night was a snail munching on something behind my chair, and yes, it is that quiet round here, well, during the week at least... :D

Stayed up till around 2 am ..
Saw about 3 or 4 in total one of which I'm not sure about ..hence 3 or 4
but there was a high level haze ..
Stars visible ..but not as clear as previous nights.
Not the amazing show I expected ..but the few I did see were very bright.
Never really seen a spectacle from the Perseids ..
The Leonids have impressed more in the past.

Well it started so well, then sods law gets in the way and the first overnight spherics of the year rumble up from France and get a little too close for comfort. Up at 3AM local unplugging everything and winding down the mast.

Short compilation video of some of the stronger reflections using a modified Sony tuner and nine element yagi beaming 110°

Details of the stations that produced RDS.
HRT-HR 1 from Beli Manastir, Croatia. 1487KM
Radio Proglas from Jeseník/Praděd, Czech Republic. 1220KM
RMF FM from Bydgoszcz/Trzeciewiec, Poland. 1267KM

I was also monitoring 88.3 on another tuner so with both frequencies combined I ended up with a map that looks like this.

Not bothering to go out tonight. We've had thunderstorms this afternoon and more rain and storms are forecast tonight so visibility will be somewhat limited...

Lost

Apart from the straight lines on the map resembling last nights event ( shooting stars aka meteors ), cannot find a correlation between radio and Perseids

Please explain if i`m missing a point

Tell the wife to stop talking!

No chance to see anything at the moment, low cloud off to the northeast and one of the local towns in that direction is in " Fiesta " mode, great pyrotechnics though!

Can't see naff all tonight in the sky, mostly cos of the straight-down rain, so no sitting outside looking for meteorites again... :-rofl2

I tried at about 23:30 French time on Wednesday night (the 12th) to have a look with clear skies. Saw about 3 or 4 after 20 minutes and gave up. Those that I did see though were pretty impressive, long bright tails :)

Well last night turned out to be as good as the night before, some good ones around 1 AM, one even had a twisty tail to it and lost some small stuff off it as it got to the end, made for a good show.

I saw some complaining about those small buzzy things that tend to drain your blood supply dry, if you have a big problem with mosquito's, and like to spend time outdoors I would recommend was is called a "Mosquito Magnet".

It's a bit expensive but with the possibility of contracting the "West Nile" virus it's worth it.

Info for Skometal,

Meteor trails can scatter RF signals just as good as atmospherics, (commonly called "Meteor burst communications**) with a motorized pan and tilt beam antenna (or one with a high vertical beam angle) we use to bounce 2 meter SSB signals off the ionized trails, it's good to have to have a spotter or a window facing that direction (the Perseids) but you can get some good skip even after the meteor is long gone.

I also tried to setup the digital camera, but to no avail, could not find the adapter to mount it to the motor drive, (3 way mount to a tripod single screw mount) and didn't have time to make one up. (no duct tape or zip ties, not on this expensive stuff)
