KabelKiosk Smartcard Subscription

I am interested in Kabelkiosk subscription, mainly because they have Mezzo Live HD on Eutelsat 9E.
Is there any possibility of ordering a smart card that includes all the HD channels?

You can buy the cards off Amazon Germany (generic Technisat Conax cards the are listed as compatible with Kabelkiosk on 9E and MTV on 19E), then you need either a compatible receiver or a Conax CAM.

The problem then is activating the card and buying a package - www.m7deutschland.de is the KabelKiosk site, but they basically want you to enter your address to direct you to whichever cable network provides KabelKiosk to you.

Basically, it isn't designed for satellite viewing - the 9E feeds are to feed small/medium-sized cable networks in Germany so they can provide pay channels and have the encryption all sorted for them (the 9E services are all transmitted ready to be directly transmodulated to DVB-C without any expensive re-encoding). It looks like the local cable companies act as resellers of the package, so you don't directly subscribe to KabelKiosk.

I may be wrong though!

Thank you for your reply, but Kabelkiosk channels are transmitting directly from Eutelsat 9E.
KabelKiosk on Eutelsat 9B at 9.0°E - LyngSat
I can watch the FTA channels without any problems and the EPG for the encrypted one, so I suppose with a proper CI CAM and an activated smartcard I should be able to watch the channels there.
But Amazon Germany doesn't ship the Technisat smartcard to my location (not sure if the card is also for HD channels BTW) and the activation is not possible obviously because of the address. I can buy the Technisat CI module though.
My only hope now is that perhaps there are other shops in Germany who might be able to sell me an activated card.
If the smartcard is indeed to be used only with a cable operator, then apparently the smartcard will not work for satellite.
It is a bit weird how this works.
Any idea if there is another way to get a subscription to Mezzo Live HD?
Thanks.

Yes, the channels transmit directly from 9°E for the cable providers to receive and rebroadcast. The only reason some are FTA is because they are also FTA on the cable network (the providers do no processing of the signal, only rebroadcast it as a DVB-C carrier over their own network).

The problem is as you say, you have to subscribe to KabelKiosk via one of the local cable companies that supply their service. If you did that though the card and CAM would work fine via DVB-S2 (as long as you used a CI+ compatible receiver) because the actual signal including the encryption is indentical to the cable network.

Satellite is just an easy way for KabelKiosk to supply their service to providers instead of via fibre.

Not sure about the card being HD. HD channels do use a Conax card but I have heard they're hardware paired to the CAM/receiver. Your best bet would be someone in Germany who lives in an area where there's KabelKiosk cable services who could subscribe and send you the card and CAM.

The Dutch provider CanalDigitaal offers Mezzo HD on Astra 19.2 in the Family package. It's also available for non-Dutch addresses in Europe.

Hi All

I've just found this thread while searching for info about KabelKiosk, also as a source for the Mezzo channels. I'm trying to get these channels in the UK, and of course there are no providers, so I'm looking to use a satellite. Unfortunately, I'm completely new to satellite TV, and there's a steep learning curve! The channels are available from a number of satellites, but line of sight will be quite limiting for the dish I get. Ideally I'd like to use Astra 19.2E, but I'm having difficulty in finding any provider where I can buy a subscription and get the necessary kit for access (card & CAM?). Does anyone have any advice, particularly about the last point on getting a subscription card?

Thanks

Basically, if you want KabelKiosk, you need to find a friend in Germany who lives somewhere that has a local cable network (i.e. not Vodafone or Unitymedia/KabelBW), like Pyur in the East or NetCologne. Then they'd have to subscribe to KabelKiosk via their provider and send you the card and CAM to use in your own receiver with the satellite feeds on 9E.

The 9E feeds are identical to what goes through the cable networks in Germany so it doesn't matter whether you receive them over cable or satellite as long as you have a sub card (which is only available through the cable providers as far as I'm aware).

Welcome to our site
Have you ever watched Mezzo?
I used to enjoy their programming in the past few years quite a lot, but these days I hardly watch it. Perhaps because my subscription is only for the SD channel or maybe their programming has gone down hill.
Anyway I got the subscription as part of the DigiTurk Europe package and from Eutelsat 7E.
IMHO it is not worth the trouble for the SD channel but I will be glad to help you buying a sub if you really want it.
Here is a link that shows you all the available channels and on which satellite and TP's
Mezzo - LyngSat

If you want to watch classical music in general and not Mezzo specifically, I can suggest going the internet way (streaming).
There are two options which should work on your smart TV (Samsung should work) also on your mobile smart phone.
1 - Berliner Philharmoniker
2 - Medici TV
They have all kind of promotional offers. Just install the Apps and see if they are suitable to your taste.

I think you can watch Mezzo by subscribing to Canal Digitaal Netherland
CAM701condiional access module for Canal Digitaal

Entertainment HD | Canal Digitaal
This package includes Mezzo and Classica for only 34.95€ TTC /months (Presumably in HD but make sure first)
Also ask TV Corner if you need to have Dutch ID or it doesn't matter.
You will need a satellite receiver that can support CI+ Module. I use Mutant HD51 which has support to my DigiTurk Europe CI+ module.
There are other receivers options from TV Corner.
Good luck.

Thanks for this. We saw Mezzo and Mezzo Live HD in Madeira for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I came back to UK determined to try and get it here, but was amazed to find that there are no UK providers, although it's available in nearly every other country in the western world! I know it's available here via a number of satellites, but the problem I have (apart from not yet having a satellite dish!) is that I'm not sure which satellites to concentrate on, and I need to find a provider who will give me a subscription for a UK address.

I'm less interested in internet sources, because I don't really want to have a laptop hooked up to the TV all the time, and although my TV can be hooked up to the internet, I'm not sure that it will have anything other than the limited functionality Panasonic have built in. As for installing apps, I have a Windows phone and there are very few apps available. Thanks for the offer to help with buying a sub - I may well take you up on that!

I would strongly suggest to consider the the TV Corner offer. I think I would be interested in that if only I could get Canal Digitaal in Israel from Astra 19.2E.

If you have a Blu-Ray player, it should have many Apps including the classical ones I mentioned.

Thanks for the info about Canal Digitaal. The TVCorner offer you linked to is much cheaper than the one I've seen on the Satellite Shop (120 euros against £199!), but the monthly sub is much higher (34.95 against 29.95). also it's not clear to me whether you have to buy a receiver from TV Corner as well?

I would buy the CI+ Module and an Enigma E2 receiver like Mutant HD51 because I can backup the recordings to an external HDD. The Canal Digitaal dedicated receiver would definitely encrypt the recording and are less flexible but they include apps that you can use if you hide your IP using VPN as they recommend in their website. But it is up to you of course
