Geoff why not invest in a small UPS, that will smooth out the blips and will supply the stb with electicity should the mains go off.

That is good advice, thank you. It is a pity these SKY Digi-boxes don't have a built in battery to hold the memory, as our VCR (Sony) does!

This problem is not routinely caused by power problems.

If you change the default transponder in an area where it is never possible to receive the "normal" default transponder the box should remember it (except during long power outage).

However, if the "normal" default transponder can be received some of the time, then as soon as it comes online the box will change it's settings back to that TP. When you lose the signal on that TP the box will stop working until you manually change it back to your preferred alternative.

Sadly not the case, I have frequent requests from customers with small dishes in Spain whose boxes have lost default transponder settings after just a brief power interruption, and a Sky receiver will jump back immediately to the default if it can receive it, even weakly, it doesn't wait for a re- start.

I think that the only solution for my installation will be to attenuate the 2A North signal (by offsetting the dish a tiny bit more towards 28.5E) so that I never get the 11.778V transponder. Fortunately the only other useful 2A North beam transponder is Channel 4+1 which can be resolved at lower signal strengths than 11.778V.

Cut and pasted this-
Default Transponder
Some useful features can be found in Installer setup, to exit press Backup on your Remote.
You will see the Default Transponder settings here, these can be changed, though will revert to the original settings once you have left the Installer setup. To keep any changes, you will have to unplug your receiver without leaving the Installer setup.

From this site, full of useful information

Hope this helps

My Satellite Setup
Community dish in Southern Spain, not far from Gibraltar. Box is a Pace 2600C
My Location
Costa del Sol
I have a PACE 2600C connected via a community system.
Intermittently I lose the program synopsis when viewing the channel selection page. If this happens I will, concurrently, not show signal strength, signal quality, lock etc in the signal test page of the services. All channels continue to be received perfectly, despite there being no indications in the signal test.
If I select a program currently showing, the program synopsis will appear on demand.
Our installers have said that this is a problem starting with the tuner on the box. Is this likely?
I am using the default transponder settings.
As I type this, the signal test is satisfactorily showing and program synopses are available, but this can change at any time!
(If the signal strength/quality is not showing, the EPG will sometimes not show listings for later that day or the next day, but will be "searching for listings")

Thinking "out of the box" I wondered if any sort of learning remote control exisits with a timed macro funtion that could be setup to reset the default TP at regular intervals using infra-red.

(I believe there used to be some kit for distribution systems that could be programmed to regularly send three digits to a digibox (via RF2) to re-set it to a specific channel. Things got screwed up when SKY introduced 4 digit radio station codes as the system didn't support them!)
