Spring has been and gone so by now sunflower lovers should have their plants in the ground for this year's forum competition.

The rules are simple - grow the tallest sunflower you can. No prizes apart from the kudos of having the biggest sunflower and knowing your plants tower above everybody elses's

Mine went in the ground last week after having been germinatedon my window bottom. I am not expecting big things as i am using seeds from previous flower heads that did not make it to the bird feeder, photo to follow

Potted the seeds yesterday; new, and seeds from last year's largest, which probably won't turn out as big.
Also, will be trying some coloured specimens.

They are on the way, as usual we got too many going.I have had to knock more support poles in this year.I am just posting the six that are planted against pergola posts here. There are at least seven planted elsewhere.

Much like my effort. Wrinkly leaves, which I don't recall happening last year - they don't seem to be taking up the water efficiently enough to fill out the foliage. I've kept them well watered during the dry spell.

First three are Russian Giants (!), the poor specimen next to the pentstemon an Evening Sun, a reddish yellow when (if) it finally blooms.

Just looked outside, and the Gastropods are now trying to have my Dahlia plantlings for supper, the blighters. Just removed a few snails. Those and a few others are now going to the far end of the back alley and will be the birds' breakfast tomorrow hopefully.

Well the tallest of mine is 4ft but the flower is already forming so I will have to enter the dwarf competition again this year

I'm down to the last 3 after the slugs and caterpillars have done their worst, they're just over 2 feet, hopefully see some action with the warmer weather.IMG_20190621_094218.jpg
