I have just received ownership of a secondhand 2,4m offset fiberglass dish. It is 187cm in width, the height from the top of the base is 219 cm, the total height is 243 cm.

It hasn't got any mountings or supporting arm for the LNB. I can't find any brand name or part number on it. However I believe it is of professional quality. Has anybody got any idea who may have manufactured this dish. I guess the hole near the bottom is a distinguishing feature?

I would like to get this dish set up to receive ITV on astra 2d in Oslo, Norway for the rugby world cup in sept and I guess this bad boy should do the trick.

Any advice on what type of LNB, LNB support arm, feedhorn I need etc would be greatly appreciated!:-worship

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

It's not a 2.4m, the width of the dish is what you go by, so as you say it's 187cm in width, which would make it 1.9m...

As for setting it up, you're really going to struggle if you have no info whatsoever on it, offset dishes aren't as easy to rebuild as prime focus dishes are when lacking mounts and LNB arms... :(

I'm sure someone on here may have one like it and supply measurements though... :)

Fiberglass or SMC dishes were popular back in the old days, these days plastic dishes is not up to the performance of the hydroformed/spun aluminium or steel dishes.

Try it on Ka-band and you will see that it does not perform compared to a nice metal dish.

For those who do not know a fibreglass dish still has a metal reflector embedded in it otherwise the microwaves would pass straight through it.

Hi,

Just found this PDF:-

_http://www.qsl.net/n1bwt/chap5.pdf

It may help you to calculate the focal distance, depth and offset tilt angle of your dish.

by the look of you photo, you have taken it at the dish's boresight.

Like wod has said, It looks like an uplink truck dish.

Andrews/Channelmaster dish`s still use fiberglass, and they make excellent dishes.

Thanks for the replies. I have found out that it is a Fibo 1,8m gregorian offset antenna off a transportable earth station. Unfortunately without the sub-reflector and the fact that fibo-støp no longer exists means it will be almost impossible to get working.

Yes I agree, if he can locate a subreflector and arm, it will be a cracking dish.

If it's a Fibo, and it were mine :-worship I think I would be trying to find a sub-reflector of a 90 or 120 Fibo dish. Fibo were quite modular with their designs and I think it likely that it would be a good match. Must be a few damaged Fibo dishes about, being a diecasting, the sub usually survives.

Would need a bit of investigation and experimenting to get the position right, but as rolfw implies, it would be well worth the effort. :D

I thought Fibo only made, 1.2m 90cm and 55cm size dish`s?

But I had this debate before, Im sure I saw a pic of a 1.8m fibo on another forum.

The debate is on members pictures of this forum, around about page 10 I think.

This dish came from Telenor. These dishes were developed by Norweigian Telecom Research (NTR). I believe this dish was part of some research and development work. The following paper describes the work. http://www.telenor.com/telektronikk/volumes/pdf/4.1992/Side_85_88.pdf
Unfortunately the picures have been omitted from this pdf. Figure 2 is of a 1,8 m antenna on transportable earth station. I believe this is the same or similar dish i have. I am trying to find this picture.

As explained in the paper some 3,3 m and 1,8 m dishes were produced by Raufoss between 1981-87. In 1988 production was transfered to EB-NERA (now ABB-NERA) In 1988 the production of reflectors were moved to Ticon in Drammen. They used polyester with glass fibre. ( I dont think they exist anymore, I cant find any info on them). I believe my dish may have come from there.

The smaller dishes were mass produced by Fibo-Støp, Holmestrand where they produced 55 cm 90cm and 120cm dishes.

I guess strictly speaking i shouldnt say that my dish is a Fibo Støp since i dont know that it was made there but it is the same design looking very similar to the 55cm with the hole near the base of the main reflector (for a wave guide?). My dish is fibreglass whereas i think most of the fibo dishes are steel.

I am planing on buying a sub reflector from a 120 cm dish and trying to make a new feed arm. I would appreciate any advice or comments from any of you fibo fans with some experience of tinkering with these dishes.

@Harps

Try contacting Bobben at Telenor teleport in Norway.

He might have some more information in what feedarms and so on the dish had.

He is the owner of that site you emailed me about.
