Peter,

There are alternatives if you can't have a large dish, or get a subscription.

If you learnt Russian in school (or want to learn) there are a range of free Russian channels on Hotbird at 13e. The signal is very strong so you can use another Sky zone 1 dish, the small oval shaped dish.

Note most people refer to 'Music Box Russia' as 'Russian Music Box', it is the same channel (it features lots of attractive Russian women singing so it is quite popular even among people who don't speak Russian :)).

About the best FTA receiver around is the Technomate 5400 which allows recording onto a hard disk or flash drive using USB.

You could future proof yourself by getting a Technomate HD receiver but they are more expensive. No sign of the Russian channels going to HD in the next few years though.

There are also many free channels on Astra 19e.

If you wanted them as well, you could use a 6 degree monoblock and a 60cm dish aimed at Hotbird 13e. A Sky oval minidish is not suitable for use with a monoblock but is fine for either satellite on their own as they are very powerful.

There is also the Technisat Multytenne 45cm dish which gets 13e 19e 23.5e and 28e. You can't use it for Sky subscription channels but it is fine for everything else, and with the Technomates you can record via USB.
