A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Surely it cannot be as monotonous as this ?

A friend has a similar model (with DVB-S port) that is working apart from a dark screen. Ive offered to have a look but I cannot believe the manufacturer designed the lighting circuit like a Christmas tree.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Depends on the manufacturer, some have several strips of LEDs like that one, some have two strips, some are edge-lit, etc., but, yeah, pretty easy fix... :)

Heck, with a little work, you can even convert CCFL backlit televisions to LED, I've done that with my uncle's old Panasonic TV (though subsequently learned it's a 720p TV, so, er, bit pointless really!), and although a bit "banded" with the light distribution, it worked, may add some diffuser material I took from a broken LED TV I turned into a light panel though, just to diffuse the light a bit better... :)

Yes, same with my parents' old Toshiba TV. I managed to replace the lights but it's certainly a faff...

Replacing laptop screen backlights and/or inverters can be worse - the hinges have the cables running through them and then those are wound around the edges of the lid via lots of moulded-in little plastic "Hampton Court Maze" clips. Getting the cables out is bad enough, but getting them back in is even worse. Then there's the inverters themselves - sometimes riveted to the back panels!:-doh

Yup...It is a very big pain in the backside to replace the LED strips on an HDTV, I have done several, in some cases it cheaper to go buy a new set.

As to trying to get the cabling back into those clips, (some are designed to be one-way/one time) it's faster to use a hot glue gun, a little dab and your done.

I was thinking about doing this to a top spec LCD I have to convert to led to overcome dark edges on the screen where over the years I think the lamps have discoloured.
However I wouldn't have the electrical knowledge to change these so getting the set to someone who knows what they are doing at reasonable cost proved too much of a challenge. Plus it works ok for now.

:Y
OTOH, by comparison with most laptops, TV's have "acres" of space behind the screens - very little change of using a hot gun approach in a laptop, but I'll try to remember that tip in case I should ever need it.
