If the screen is damaged it is a write off. I might as well buy a new tv set and send this one off to land fill.Damaged lcd panel. The part should be available from lg. Fitting it is screws, connectors & taking care. Question is price.
Worth taking the back off , since it is lighting up it could be something like a connector has come adrift.
Am not risking my life opening up a tv set.
...I put a mouse inside the TV and let it run around for a while, if still alive after 1 hour then I can proceed :O)Am not risking my life opening up a tv set.
Doing that with a large value (MegOhms) decent wattage resistor in the lead might be a good idea nevertheless!... I short the cap to be sure there's nothing left.
Have you checked to see if you can get into the TV menu? If so can you check to see that the correct video resolution is set for a MAC / PC input?Had been using it as a computer monitor. It has screen burn. Don't know if it is worth repairing. Was thinking about upgrading to a 4k set at some point anyway.
If all else fails, toss it on ebay and recoup some money, people will buy up damaged sets to parts-harvest and re-sell things like power supplies, main PCBs, T-CONs, backlights, etc., so still some value in it, better that than sending off to landfill...

A drop to the floor may have reset things.
And what input were you using for the computers video?
If you have let the TV sit unplugged from the AC main power overnight then it should be safe to open, most LED/LCD panel TV's don't have very large and dangerous caps in them anymore,(not like the old CRT types that is) and most of the internal switching power supply's are self draining on the large caps used for the power regulators.
If your going to open it, then a large coffee table or kitchen table is best, put down a nice soft beach towel to protect the front screen, as all the screws are on the back.
I can't recall when LG last put piranhas in the back of televisions. unplugging it from the electricity a few hours before taking the back off should be sufficient, but if you like you could don a pair of marigolds.
