Quad and quatro LNBs have similar names but are different ways of providing for multiple receivers. A quad has 4 outputs which can be connected to 4 receivers and each is controlled by its receiver for H or V Hi or Lo band. A quattro has 4 outputs but each output is fixed as one of H, Hi; H, Lo; V, Hi; and V, Lo. The receivers are then connected to a switch which determines which combination of polarisation and band is required and connects the receiver to the appropriate output. That system is more expensive than a quad but allows for more receivers per dish and so could be installed in, say. an appartment block

pgh13,

OK - think I understand the principle..
But could you clarify me on this then.:
Right now I have 4 quadro LNBs up there on the roof - 3 on one dish and 1 on another dish..
They have each 4 cables which goes to 4 diseqc's and then 4 cables down to 4 receivers - which in turn are able to watch TV independently..

Would there be any good reason - or advantage - for me to swap the 4 quadro LNBs with 4 new quadro LNB switches..? And in the same process aquire them with 0.2db iso the 0.6db I have now..

I suppose the benfit would be that you'd be able to feed more than 4 receivers, but I don't have experience with this sort of kit. It'd have to be a pretty specailised box to take 16 lnb inputs - Sounds expensive!

..hhmm - I think - actually I know - that I'm confused about this topic regarding LNB, DiSEqC - and now also switches..
I had a professional company set up everything on the roof and down to the receivers..
Slowly I'm starting to dig into this satellite system - and I find it quite interesting - even to the degree that I want to completely take it over myself - eventually ending up with a Satlook Digital NIT to adjust the dishes and LNBs myself in the future..

I have 4 LNBs - with 4 cables each - and one cable from each LNB goes into 1 DiSEqC..
Then - from each DiSEqC - goes 1 cable down to 4 different receivers..
I can do all receiver setup fine now..

But my interest has started to move also towards the setup on the roof - and what I'm a bit unsure about is:

What does the DiSEqCs actually do..? Are they the switches - same as the LNB with switches..? And if so - cold I then scrab the DiSEqCs and have everything in the LNBs - or am I mixing things up..?

And would a LNB with switch (opposed to the ones I have now without switches) do me any good - or would they be waste..? I use only 4 or 5 receivers in the whole house..

Also - where does the power come from - is that brought down through the dish and LNBs together with the satellite signal..?
Or is the power coming backwards up through the coaxial cable from the receiver power..?
Ha - ha - that's probably one Q which will have you guys roll over on the floor with laughter :-rofl2

Finally - my LNBs are 0.6db - would new ones with 0.2 or even lower be a big difference in TV picture quality..?

Unless you want to receive more satellites, what you have is the best setup.

A DiseqC switch will simply switch between different LNBs.

It comes from the receiver up the cable to the Motor/LNB...

0.2 is theoretically impossible, got for a 0.3 instead, but there wouldn't be any visible difference, only something that a spectrometer could pick up...
(I use a Grundig 0.6dB twin LNB on my indoor dish and it gives me upto 80% signal quality/strength).

Also see my multiswitch guide, in faqs sections below.

Multiswitches (and/or multi output lnbs) - and motorised dishes - combined is technically possible, but not done, because with a single satellite dish shared between many users, obviously there would be "pointing conflicts"! For multi-satellite multi-user, the solution is mult-satellite input multiswitches (again, see my multiswtich guide).

Sorry, but I have to challenge that claim, 0.2 dB might be practically impossible at the moment, but it is NOT theoretically impossible. Unless you can explain it further by telling us which theory you are basing it on.

Also the difference in C/N between a 0.6 dB and a 0.2 dB LNB is 5.0 dB (approximately 3-fold increase in signal vs. noise) in theory.

Theoretical C/N difference between a 0.6 dB and a 0.3 dB LNB is 3 dB (2-fold increase in signal vs. noise) which would certainly not go unnoticed!

yeah - I thought 0.2dB is a possibility, but I don't want to sound clever - see this link though: _h**ps://www.satplace.de/spnew/frontend/index.php?disp=pdetail&id=916&PHPSESSID=546585b0b307208b6bccf4be80d58a27

Looks like this Vantage model is advertizing 0.2dB..?

(just edited the link - I'm unsure if we are allowed to post links..? Have seen others substituting letters in a link - is it supposed to be like that..?)

there are 0.1db,0.2db,0.3db,0.4db,0.5db,0.6db LNBs available. It doesn't necessary means that a 0.1db is better than a 0.3db even with higher amplification. As long as I know the Invacom has the best LNBs which are all 0.3db specially in low signal and rainy areas
