I am also having the same problems with loss of signal. I have an echostar 3000ip via with aston 1.05. I connected my sky minidish to the receiver and managed to get a few shopping and travel channels.
I wanted to test voltage and resistance readings at the lnb end but have no idea how to do this.
I really would like to get the bottom of this before I pay somebody to change lnb or realign my dish.

Thanks for all advice so far

Unfortunately being able to test the voltage at the LNB end of the cable will only tell you whether the cable and connectors are good. You will still not know whether it is alignment or the LNB.

What you can do, is have someone watching the signal strength on the receiver when it is showing nothing and put your hand over the LNB, this should give you a small level reading, try it on both polarities.

You can test the voltage with a 24 volt light bulb, and rather than get someone in to change the LNB, why not buy one yourself, they are a doddle to replace, just make sure that you have some self amalgamating tape to seal the F connector.

Is the dish motorised?

Yes, the dish is motorised - will this create difficulties for installing a new lnb.

Thanks for the advice

No Nad, it is no more difficult to replace the LNb, but there are more things that can potentially be causing the problem.

As with Tirosh's problem, although it didn't at first logicallyappear to be so, it was in fact the dish alignment.
