Just took delivery of my first M disc writer ..
cost me £50 ...so what will it do for me ?
Well ...if the claims are to be believed ..
1000 year data storage ..
The one I bought was ASUS brand and is 4K bluray compatible ..(BDXL)
Disc prices are approx £2 each ...for multilayer functionality DVD..but each disc could hold approx 1TB for bdxl eventually...but these are £20 each for 100gb currently ????
Thats huge..
And my data will outlive me for centuries..
or so the theory goes.
:D

..not that this was the reason for buying it ..
I bought it to play 4K UHD movies on a PC ..
So far I only have THE MARTIAN and Fantasic Beast AWTFT ..in UHD
I do have PASSENGERS on back order tho'
A movie I totally recommend ..Along with The Martian

I am through with using discs of any kind.
My biggest regret was buying a Sony laser Disc drive and each laser disc cost me the earth at the time, the size of an LP record and in MPEG1 format.
Thank goodness they invented the DVD-R few years later and my drive became worthless.
These days I only record using PVR and HDD.

I bought a blu-ray writer drive about 2/3 years ago and 25 blank blu-ray disks.

Use the writer drive as a reader drive in the pc, but I have never written a disk.

If my memory serves me blu ray is 25gb?

Although the idea of being able to back up the nas drive does appeal to me.
