hi rolfw, what do you think of cardman.co.uk he is out of stock but quoting £130.42 all in which is £50 cheaper than satstore at present but i have to wait for new stock to arrive due to popularity apparently.

quote from cardman site

"Ordering Code: MAGICKIT
Includes: Magic Module CI CAM, Instructions and the Magic Module Programming Interface.
Gross Weight: 91g
Price: £109 / €171.51 / $168.80

For price comparision with other suppliers, then the end delivered price for the MAGICKIT from myself would be £130.42"

what is this about cheap bugged magic module clones?
how can i tell if its the genuine one from germany?

I assume this comes down to good reputation when buying. Can anyone recommend any good online sat shops and also perhaps who to avoid and why?

He's always one of the most reliable suppliers around and knows what he's talking about (I think he probably tests the gear himself) whether there will be more supplies coming out of Germany is still in question as far as I know, but you probably won't get it much, if any cheaper.

I have posted a new thread in the Chit Chat regarding the forthcoming Dreambox, this may be the receiver of the future, may be worth waiting a couple of months, prior to making a decision.

There are several possible places, but bear in mind that very few, if any people have them in stock.

Astratech
Cardman Awaiting Stock
Goldwafers
Hisat They quote low price, but are "awaiting new stock" Nickolai

Where the best/cheapest place to buy the Magic Module in the UK?

So far I've found...

http://www.cardman.co.uk Cam £94 ex vat, but bit dodgey with no online order

http://www.hisat.com/ Cam £131.36 inc vat & p&p - I think the cheapest and best one so far

http://www.digicams-uk.net Cam £139.00 inc vat, p&p ?

Card-Mania.co.uk Cam £143 inc vat & p&p

http://www.goldwafers.com/cams/magic.htm ? £150 Pre Order

http://www.electronic-devices.net/ Cam + Programmer £154 inc vat & p&p

Card-Mania.co.uk Cam + Programmer £159 inc vat & p&p (Overpriced!)

Astratech Cam + Programmer £170 inc vat & p&p (Overpriced!)

http://www.waferworld.co.uk/ Cam + Programmer £170 inc vat? inc p&p? (Overpriced!)

http://www.waferworld.co.uk/ Cam £180 inc p&p (Overpriced!)

http://www.satstore.co.uk Cam + Programmer £180.95 inc vat & p&p (Overpriced!) No online order?

http://www.pulsat.com Cam + Programmer £219 (Way to overpriced!!!) Should be named and shamed!

http://www.wizardsatellite.com/ws/Intro.html ? Sold Out

I think that £140+ is overpriced and that suppliers have boosted the prices up while in short supply, hopefully when the MM production picks up again and becomes more widely available the prices should go back down again

Anyone no anywhere better than http://www.hisat.com/ ? I'm trying to get one for my uncle, I already have MM (got mine for £100.29 on 21/08/02)

It may be a tad academic at the moment Phil, as the vast majority of suppliers either do not have stock, or are hiking the price to unreasonable levels. (I hope everyone remembers who these are).

By the way, there seem to be a couple of duplicates in your list.

Yes, sorry Phil, I can see that now, should have read it more carefully. :)

As a matter of interest, how many of those said that they actually had them in stock at time of enquiry, I'm wondering how many of these companies are pushing the boat out on price in the vague hope that they'll get stock?

I ordered mine from Cardman before he put up the "Out Of Stock" on his web site. He has not cashed my cheque but he has also not replied to the emails asking for info.

Tirosh.

Just a word of warning!!! It is not advisable to purchase items over the net, or in any other form of direct mail, by cheque. If the supplier fails to deliver you could have a very difficult time getting back your money. It's much safer to use a credit card (not debit) because the transaction is underwritten by the credit card company.

I still think that £180 is a lot of money for a CAM, particularly as they will cost an identical amount to manufacture as a standard euro model, selling for around half the price.

It all started with the prices of the flashable Irdeto cams suddenly leaping from anywhere between £60 and £80, to £180 when the euro model was released. It just shows that a large amount of these dealers are chancers and probably only one step up from the street hawker.

I appreciate that now any new supplies are probably coming into the retailers at higher prices, but it doesn't excuse those who made huge killings on old stock.
