Trying to bring the lnb cluster back online ..
Having done Ku ..I'm now on KaD ..
Looks like there have been some changes ??
7E for a start ..
Llew ..
has the muvi mux 21553H vanished ?
Flysat says it is still there which is confusing ..
I have however added LC2 at 21584H
cheers

So ..
Looks like the arc isn't as perfect as it was before the catastrophe ..
Newsroom feed now recaptured and logged into the Gbox ..but required about 4 clicks from the Ku arc on the declination jack to get a solid lock at 9.6 db ..
TVM Malawi on Astra 4A is borderline at 3db and lock is unstable ..
Much to do for fine tuning yet ..
lnb adjustment (distance from dish) requires tweaking as does the exoskeleton boom arm lift adjustment..
Problem is ...it's a bit windy so having got close I'll restrain myself from making any more adjustments until we get a less windy day..
Going well though ..but fine tweaking can take days if not weeks to get things perfect.

This is a very slow process indeed..
Restoring the LNB cluster slowly ..using known reference points for some of them..
So far I have the Hughes/Norsat KaA combo on-line ..newsroom and Nag feeds
Also ...the Hughes KaB/C Hylas Avanti mux ..

Next hopefully the Titanium C ..
Then the Turksat circular mini mux at 42E which requires refitting the SL3 for Ka
Then it gets real tricky trying to find Athena ...Syracuse etc ...as these dont have TV broadcasts to home in on ..
could take a while ..but like BR ..
we're getting there..

Having trouble with the Titanium ..
I don't know how robust these things are ...but sadly I did drop this during the initial stripdown ..so may well need a new one..
It didn't fall far but may have been enough to write it off ..
doh!!

I have dropped mine once or twice and it survived, you should be ok mate. The only thing I had some trouble with, was the plate moving.

Looks like the Titanium survived it's fall ...but the bracket didn't so had to make a new bracket and mount ....also moved closer to focus opting for the second tier...
Hopefully once fully tweaked will provide a better signal ..
Here are some pics ..
literally just finished fitting it in the dark ...
promising I guess ..
the Globecast mux at 3727R 5W is locked at 7.6db (untweaked)..which I guess is ok for a c band offset on a 1.5 dish..

Yes, this carrier is there 24/7 but we cant demodulate it with our receivers or card.
Hmm ..it could well be that some trees low on the horizon and at a distance are blocking this then ..
As I can still get traces of the modulated carriers on Telstar 14 63 West ..
Nowhere near as good as I've had them in the past ..but nonetheless 'present'

So ..
it looks like I have a problem still but can I live with it ??
Not sure where or why ...but I'm certain of the when..
I've had Carl over at 24.5w most of the day to watch the historical defeat of the Aussies ..
About 10 minutes ago I swung back to 7E Ka ..
the dish arrived but Muvi mux did not ..
The F15 only showing a signal of 3db instead of the expected 7+
I could have tweaked to restore the signal ..but instead continued E to 19.2 Ka ...then back to the preset 73 which is supposedly 7E ..
Full signal returned ?
So in other words had to overshoot then return West for 7E ..
So either a miscount of pulses or more likely there is a deviation of about 3 clicks somewhere..
But I can find no play in the system ...but there must be ..??
This would not neccessarily be apparent in Ku ...but in Ka 3 clicks and your off focus on the target sat ..
That's how tight the beam is ..
I have no idea where this error is getting in and can find nothing loose in the system ?
Main bearing on the primary cog perhaps ..
Motor/Wormdrive & Gearbox are all replaced ?
Ideas anyone ?
and yes I know I'm shifting a lot of weight..

DSCF0092.JPG On the plus side ...
The reason for shifting to a Ka transponder in the first place was for what I hoped would be beneficial adjustment of the exoskeleton support arm bolt ..
Having found out some time ago that this dish cannot carry this much weight without help ..and the very reason the exo was conceived and fitted in the first place..
This adjustment actively distorts or undistorts the dish face depending on your point of view..
Not enough to damage the dish but to compensate for distortions introduced by the excess weight of the lnb cluster..
Well to cut this story short ..
Muvi mux at 7E was previously maxed at 8.3db ...and no amount of AZ or EL adjustment would improve this ..
8 turns on the exo support bolt and the signal maxed at 9.4 db ..
That's massive in Ka Terms ..
The increase will of course have some effect in Ku and C ...but in KaD is where it is most needed and relevant...

Evan, I have very similar miscounting issues on my 1224 as well. To land where I stored it, I have to go from the direction that I stored it at. That said, I see this problem everywhere. From jack arms to DiSEqC motors.

From my reading satellites do move very slightly, the 1224 is very accurate compared to my actuator, i have one box to drive the dish and that's all it does and its always set to small steps, once ive moved to whatever position i just tweak to peak with small steps, i guess i will notice this more with the 1224, i put it down to the satellite moving not the actuator been out.
