9-12 pass.jpg Close pass coming up ...and another later ..
Normally not possible to get acceptable images this late in the day ..but still a bit of light available on this clear night ..plus the added bonus of moonlight ..
So ..maybe it is do-able..
we shall see ..

So the only image useable was the Infra Red source ..
Not quite sure what I'm looking at ..
So ...anyone care to hazard a guess ?
There is landmass to be seen ..

Yep you might well laaarf ..
But when imaging NOAAs presumably WXtoIMG flips these images automatically based on the direction of approach ?
;)

It makes perfect sense now ...cos you'd theoretically have to rotate the satellite ..or...the imaging apparatus ...which wouldn't be practical..
I guess I learned something tonight ...that should have been obvious..

Dusk over Iceland and just maybe a bit of Greenland in daylight ..
All depends on the signal strength of M2 at the edge of footprint ..
..and the amount of cloud cover of course..
??

Worth the wait ...
I was just hoping that the skies would remain clear ...as M2 passed NW of the UK and below Iceland ...
also cloud break was important here ...but today was rewarded ..
This is probably about as far west as I can comfortably receive M2 images ..but Impressive ??
I think so ..

Very nice! Does this satellite only transmit downwards? i.e. can you not receive it at all when it's over Greenland for example?

As far as I can tell ...M2 takes sequential image strips as it passes over specific parts of the Earth ...
So technically one _could_ receive an image of Greenland as it passes over and images it ...IF...you lived in Greenland ..OR if you could still receive a locked transmission ...which might be possible from the UK ...with a highly directional antenna ...with a tracking system ..and possibly some amplification ...
..but keep in mind the nature of the beast ...
Like a Geo satellite ..you have to be in footprint (which is smaller and tighter as it isnt so high above the earth) ...
..and it is a moving moving object .....
..and once it drops below your visible horizon ...becomes impossible ..

..and transmits a weaker signal..
You get the idea..

Lovely pic of Iceland. The big white area in the south eastern area probably isnt cloud - its likely to be the Vartnajokull Glacier. :)
