I've been given a reasonable recent micro PC (Pavilion s7413s) with a broken power supply. There is nothing else wrong with the machine according to the supplier, but these PSUs are apparently only available from the US at about $50 plus shipping.

I could slip in a PSU from a Dell machine that is sitting here (actually it would have to be strapped on the back) but the circuit is designed for a micro ATX wiring loom

Are there any adapters around that change from 24pin standard to micro ?HP connector 2.JPG

Would this work??

Code:

Or this hummer??

Code:

Note: the word "Hummer" is an engineering term that refers to any device that uses electricity, if it doesn't use any form of electricity then it is called a "Puppy"

After a bit of thought on this, you may have the mico chassis, so thos supplies may not fit, here is a supplier that may have one that will drop in.

Nah, the Dell psu also has a 24 pin connector, but it's at the back of a large box of other bits.
I may have to resort to cutting out the wiring loom and resoldering.

However, you may be better at searching for a repair of the existing one - part number 5188-7602. I couldn't see anything myself, apart from 'they are not beefy enough' type threads.

They call it a mini but I assume it's the same as the 'micro' one mentioned in the HP catalogue. Regardless its stateside and would be about £20 including shipping. For that I'd probably cut the loom on the duff psu and solder 23 wires.

Btw one capacitor on the psu board has a bulge, but its sandwiched between a heatsink and a large toroid, then glued down. It refuses to budge with the normal force.

They glue them to keep them from singing at the high frequency's of the switching pulse used by the power supply.

The stuff is a pain in the back side when you have to remove a cap, you some times have to use a BFW to remove them, then most of the time the caps vinyl cover peels off, and is stuck to the glue, that makes it hard to get the new cap back in place, also makes it hard to read the info on what was there to replace it.
