Ah, missed this while I was away on holiday!

Was just about to Post a Thread about it, having successfully downloaded and installed it to replace AVG Free.

Good job I did a Forum Search first :)

It is much less resource hungry than AVG and seems cleaner, leaner and meaner.

Oh dear oh dear, a positive remark about MS???
It will be interesting to see how it fares in virus detection compared to market leaders

I know - I surprised myself :-rofl2

My problem in doing a thorough evaluation is that I've never picked up any nasties anyway (through sensible use) so as far as effectiveness at identifying and removing Threats goes, I must take the word of others - and there is little enough data yet.

But a resource saving is a bonus already.

Hi guys,

As my Kaspersky Internet Security runs out next week I was wondering if anyone has any further feedback on Microsoft Security Essentials,

Does it " do what it says on the tin " or not ?,

Is it lacking anything that Kasperkey has ?

All comments would be welcome

Regards

Several of us here have used it and still are (despite the Microsoft provenance!) and it seems fine.

Googling reveals no adverse remarks other than the usual fanboy garbage.

It is discreet (No nag screens), modest on resources and can be set to auto update immediately prior to a scan.

Try it. Nothing to lose.

It includes Anti Spyware as well as Anti Virus.

General opinion is that it's a good piece of software. You do, of course, have to have a valid copy of Windows that passes the Genuine Advantage test in order to use it.

Gosh, it feels really strange to write something positive about MS.

I certainly agree there Paul however I have to reinforce my earlier comments, I have not heard of any problems yet nor have I experienced any myself I have installed it on a mixture of operating systems and as mentioned provided they pass the MS validation you should not experience any problems at all. Is that a thumbs up to MS ?:-thumb1 :-Nooo

I've rarely had a bad thing to say about Win98SE.

I have also been running this since ditching avg free and avast.

There are no nag screens advising that the program is updating and as others have mentioned it is light on the system resources. You do not notice it is there unlike some of the other security programs.

All in all a very good program for free.

Hmmm...
.. a group of fine fellows discussing a microsoft addon without resorting to swearwords.
I'll be looking for porcine aviators next..

Oh well ..I guess I'll just have to give it a try .
Now would be opportune anyway ...as my vista HTPC keeps flagging up the imminent arrival of AVG 9 ...and subsequent demise of my current AVG freebie.
