Hi,

Could be a daft question but here goes. I have a satellite setup with a single lnb pointing @ 16E. I want to buy a Monoblock 3 degree to switch to either 19E or 13E whilst keeping 16E as the main focal point of the dish as it is the weaker satellite of the three in my area. Question is do I just replace original lnb with Monoblock and depending on which way I put it should it automatically be aligned for either 13E or 19E ? Sounds a bit to straight forward so let us now if some sort of aligning is necessary.

Doesn't sound like a goer! Monoblocks give 6 degrees (or 3 degrees) separation. If I'm understanding you correctly, the 13 and 19 of the monoblock would have to sit either side of the 16. You may need to go with 3 single LNBs and a seperate disecq switch. You may have to look for narrow LNBs because of the closeness

Indeed. Close spacing needs something like Alps LNBs.

Might be worth considering a Motor instead?

Could you provide more details about your Dish?

I dont want 3 I just want 16E and one of the other two only. Most likely 19E. My dish is a Televes 90cm.

Ah. Then you need to make a decision which.

Then just replace the existing LNB with either the 3 degree or the 6 degree Monoblock as appropriate.

Not entirely sure of the relevant Footprints where you are, but I suspect you'd be best leaving the Dish aligned to 16E.

In which event, when looking from the LNB towards the Dish, you simply clamp the right hand portion of the Monoblock in the LNB collar. The 13E (or 19E) bit will be the one on the left (unclamped). This seems back to front, but don't forget basic optics and angle of incidence/angle of reflection - all will then be clear!

Also, set DiSEqC A = 16E and B = 13E (or 19E) in your Receiver.

Right so then if I select 13E I just follow your instruction as above and everything should be fine. No realigning required ? Just simply replace the orginal lnb with the mono and bobs your uncle!

You may need to raise the dish slightly as the mono will be heavier so dish may sag a little

Yes, that's it.

To optimise Hotbird, you may have to gently rotate the Monoblock in the collar a tiny bit clockwise (again, when looking from LNB towards Dish). This, when reflected from the Dish face, will account for the slight difference in the required Elevation.

hello ,
the best way would scrap the monoblock and go with 3 lnb and 3 input disec switch.
if your dish is big enough for all 3 have one on 19,one on 16 and the other on 13.
make the center lnb 16 degrees .
lnb costs 4 or 5 euro each and the disec may cost 15 euro.
you will have to have a spectrun analizer or somthing realy good to insure all 3 are aligned up properlly.
i dont remember seeing a 3 satellite monoblock that will cover all 3 possions

Quite: But he doesn't want 3 Satellite positions - see Post #4 :)

(Both I and pgh13 initially interpreted the requirement as being for all 3 positions, but this was later clarified by the OP)

I awoke some moments ago with a feeling of woe .................

The instructions above are back to front (despite my reminder about angle of incidence/reflection).

To be absolutely precise:

If you want 16E/13E

Get a 3 degree Monoblock
Leave the Dish aligned to 16E
When looking from LNB to Dish, clamp the Left portion
In DiSEqC, assign Port A = Hotbird and Port B = 16E
Tweak by rotating the Monoblock anti-clockwise a tiny bit

If you want 16E/19E

Get a 3 degree Monoblock
Leave the Dish aligned to 16E
When looking from LNB to Dish, clamp the Right portion
In DiSEqC, assign Port A = 16E and Port B = Astra 1
Tweak by rotating the Monoblock clockwise a tiny bit

A simple enough exercise unless you disappear up your own Feedhorn, like I did
