I really need to make up up my mind. Have a technomate 5500Ci
pointed at hotbird with an 80cm dish. Its brilliant but I want to
try more satellites. Do I go for a double LNB and add Astra or
go all the way with a Diseq motor? The former appeals on simplicty
and cost grounds and the latter might be over the top with just too
much to chase after.

What do I watch? Any alternative to $** and I like things Spanish.

This is my own Xmas present to me and I need to make a decision!

Go all the way, motorised (and a slightly larger dish)

You know it makes sense

Yep, my tick goes in the motorised box as well, you will not be disappointed if you go that route. :)

Can't argue with 100% can I ?!
Don't think I can run to a bigger dish though as facing
reduced work and income in new year. Don't feel
sympathetic - I really would like to spend more time
with my wife!

You can sit together in front of the TV, knowing you have a world of choice once its up and running

participate in Vietnamese - Who wants to be a Millionaire
Watch TJ Hooker (again) in Bulgarian
Sing along to your favourite Austrian 'Oompah' bands
Take down recipes for Aborigine outdoor cuisine
Call the Italian Tarot reading channel at a measly 7 euros a minute
Brush up on your Albanian

The world is your oyster

Meldrews better half is probably a limbo dancer (lucky man), so any trap set is unlikely to work

Thanks for your list of 'goodies' CH. I'm feeling quite depressed now.

Meldrew's wife is a very lively lady for her age and recently demanded to know where all these dodgy programs were. I gave her an eyeful of XXL which featured a blonde woman and two dark men. To say she was amazed is an understatement.

I'm now having to live up to her somewhat enhanced expectation........
I haven't the energy to go to work either!

XXL is a good 'entry level' (sic) channel for late night TV.

It contains quite a few classic 80s European TV offerings

Most satellite receivers seem to power up showing the same channel that was selected when the receiver was last switched off. Except my Echostar doesn't store the channel being watched immediately. If you've been watching something risqué like God TV ;) and then switch to something harmless like Sky News for 15 seconds before powering off, the box comes back on with God TV. Now that could surprise the missus!

It could be that the 'risqué' God channel your missus has seen is one of those shown to Mrs Meldrew, The fact that the women are uttering 'Oh God', oh God' doesnt always mean they are of a religeous persuasion.

As for last channel , there should be an option in the general settings of the receiver, if its not working then maybe a firmware upgrade may help ?

Well i've had a good laugh reading this lot... BUT, I am going to be different and say the best option I have, is my set up in Spain, it has one dish pointing at Hotbird ( single LN:cool:, with another LNB fixed on astra at 19 degs. on the same dish. Another seperate small dish pointing at 30w hispasat ( single LNB ) this is all fed via a four way Diseq box down one lead to my box. Just set them up as Diseq A...B .. and C , they work seamlessly. I have a motor dish here in the UK, it is slow and noisy in comparison, and because of dish elevation differences, less accurate for signal pull.

Oh well, theres always one... lol

I suppose that what concerns me is just how many satellites does one really want to look at and will therefore 13 and 19E really be quite sufficient.
Probably not but a mechanical device in the wind and rain of Cheshire does
make me have second thoughts. Have already got two dishes including $ky.

Let me therefore ask for just a few recommended channels (leaving Mrs M out of this!) on satellites other than Hotbird and Astra that one can receive FTA or with a 6 in 1?

Sport does not really need knowledge of the language.
English is my native tongue. Learning Spanish. Know
a little French.

Just a thought, foreign subtitles would be useful as one could read
as they speak.

Is that a yes or no from me!!

I am hoping that suggestions will be of interest to other members too
as well as myself.

A lot of the East European channels - Romanian, Albanian, Croatian, Slovenian, will have the programmes in the original language, with the subtitles in their own tongue as it were.

Germans, French and Spanish tend to dub back into the native language

If you're learning Spanish, then 30W is a must and probably the best at the moment.
