As I read the list in the first post, I thought about some of the old TV series that I really loved and one of best was a series called Out of Town, hosted by Jack Hargreaves. Anyone else remember this?
i remember this, he did the show from what looked like his garden shed. i think it was made by southern tv. i once stood behind him in a newsagents while he bought his pipe tabacco :)

Jack was, so I've been told, the head of Southern TV when it was going, hence the number of programmes of high standard.

Well ,personally,as Anglophiles, we 'd like to see "Little Britain"and the "Monty Pythons "
,we really enjoyed both ,and the Prisoner, but that one has been repeated a lot
,and there doesn' t seem to be anything today vaguely on a par.... or am I missing something?
Also, I never got into watching ITV I relised I have them...anything worth watching on itv 1,2,3,4?
Greetings from Languedoc!

ITV4 always has a number of 70's series on continuous repeat. Currently The Professionals and The Sweeney are on twice a day, with the obligatory three five minute advertising slots breaking up the stories.

Following on from the "What Music are you playing 20" thread I searched out episodes of "The Strange World Of Gurney Slade". Naturally they're on YouTube and so I present, for your delectation,:

Thanks for that, I'd not heard of the series, only the theme tune before now.

Looking through the IMDB link to the show it ran for one season only, yet Harry Worth seemed to go on for ever. Perhaps it was too 'out there'.

Episode 2 btw

Not sure it was ITV3 or ITV4 but they are also showing Robert Vaughn in "The Protectors", which was abysmal. On ITV3, SWMBO also watches (ad infinitum) reruns of Poirot...

ITV. To busy scraping the barrel with soaps and reality rubbish.

ITV2. Nothing classic on there at all (with the exception of Family Guy).

ITV3, A quick check brings up Rising Damp on the +1 version, beware though as the epg warns of 'classic' Coronation Street and 'classic' Emmerdale aplenty

ITV4, as above, though they are to show episodes of Better Late than Never, which I might record.

There is also ITV Be, but the less said the better (Modern Housewives/TOWIE)

ITV must have as much archive material in the vaults as the BBC, but they continue to throw money in a quest for modernt 'talent'.

Loved Gurney Slade. Watched it when it was broadcast in 1960. Up until then, I always dismissed Newley as another middle-of-the road crooner; it must have taken some chutzpah to do something as quirky and original as that, and get it broadcast on prime-time national TV.
