Most Missed TV

Doctor Who is the UK's most-missed television programme, according to a new survey by electrical retailers Dixons.

The 40-year-old BBC show, which featured eight different actors in the star role, was voted the series that most people would like to see back on our screens.

Dixons asked 500 customers for their top television shows. Customers were restricted to shows they had not seen for at least five years and were not allowed to vote for programmes like Dad's Army and Fawlty Towers which are occasionally repeated on terrestrial channels.

Dixons managing director Chris Langley said: "It's interesting that nine shows in our charts are broadcast on digital channels, although many of our shoppers didn't realise this is the case."

A spokesman for the group said "this information has been gathered using the very latest in our consumer/customer information technology feedback program". But no responsibility could be accepted for the accuracy of the information due to the dodgy 16K ram pack on the back of ZX81.

Out of 24271 customers that were approached by Dixons staff,

12,444 were unable to understand what the Dixons staff were on about.

8,349 managed to escape before being collared.

2,338 did not have a television, hence the reason they were in Dixons

1845 did not have a working telly, and were visiting Dixons to 'sort out' the problem.

1120 were discovered to be Dixons staff posing as customers

11 were store detectives

2 were tramps sleeping by the entrance

I have to disagree with all that has been fired at Dixons.

I found them to have a generous selection of electronic products. Prices were mean and competitive. Excellent guarantee terms at very little to no extra charge.

The staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable and will notice you at a hundred metres when you are in difficulty with a remote control (that is left out with batteries!).

If there is a problem with a product, you can phone them up and they will pick it up themselves AND hand over a replacement while their service teams deal with the problematic device.

I have taken things back that I have dropped or got bored with and had a refund or replacement (new model) without any problems.

Yes, the customer's might be thick; but, Dixons and their staff are second to none.

Best Regards,

Mark.

As I read the list in the first post, I thought about some of the old TV series that I really loved and one of best was a series called Out of Town, hosted by Jack Hargreaves. Anyone else remember this?

Sunday afternoons , about lunchtime (1ish) wasnt it ? Thunderbirds was on about the same time.

For me Top Cat was up there with Doctor Who and Blakes Seven.

Animal Magic probably kept me out of trouble after school. Wouldnt be the same without Johnny Morris though. Skippy and Champion the Wonder Horse were also good to watch.

Before that Pogles Wood (really showing my age now), and one of the first Japanese cross over anime, Marine Boy.

Strange that out of all of the childrens programmes , my parents put a ban on Tom and Jerry as it was'too violent'.

Casey Jones,
you never have to guess
When you hear
The tootin' of his whistle
It's Casey at the cabin of his Canonball Express

Amazing to think I can remember that and not my wife's birthday... it must just have sneaked in there before the memory circuits were pickled

Just found a number of episodes of Marine Boy on YouTube (15 so far, in threes). It's going to be one of those nights.

Even earlier, we did a 'Best SciFi Series' polling thread. I voted for Astroboy (the original TV series) which I remember watching on ITV in the 60's.

Polling results have disappeared now, but ISTR I was the only voter for that one :(

Which is the best Sci Fi series...Past and Present - SatsUK
