Hi Guys,
I am a relative "new boy" around here - I've been lurking and trying to learn for a few months now. My initial plan was to install my own system but in the end I chickened out and had a pro recently install a motorised system.

He fitted a 1.2 metre Channel Master dish on a flat roof at the back of the house - problem came when my wife opened the bedroom curtains in the morning to be greeted by the back end of this (fairly large) dish; result dish had to go!

Last weekend I carefully moved the dish on to a plinth that I had constructed in the back garden, ensuring it was perfectly level etc. I had dismantled the dish with it aligned on Hotbird and realigned it to Hotbird when reassembled using an analogue meter.

Now the good news is that this was all a success. I can still pick up the same 11 satellites that I could pick up in the previous location.

However, when I checked the mount as I was reassembling, I could see that it was not absolutely vertical (and obviously was originally installed this way!). Question is - should I correct the mount to make it truly vertical? I realise that there is quite a lot of geometry around the dish polar mount for me to mess up should I choose. Since this was a pro installation, would the due South location be correct, do you think? I have looked back the thread "finding the arc" but most of the links referred to have gone. Probably what I'm asking is, are there any easy shortcuts I could try? For instance, I could adjust the mount so that it is vertical and try it; I could always put it back as it is now if it is a failure.

I have a BEC 6800CIP receiver but the manual is pretty useless really. And the final piece of information - I am in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Norm.

Is there any reason apart from aesthetics on the post being vertical ?

Its widely believed that the dish has to be on a completely vertical post to work correctly but owing to the geometry adjustments available on most polarmounts this is not actually true in most instances.

Congratulations on getting the system moved without trouble. You obviously took a lot of care in doing it right. Dont know why the wife would complain about such a small dish though, stopped her from getting blinded by the sun first thing in the morning didnt it ?

Yes its a biggy (relatively speaking)

But I could do with an even bigger one (the wife is never satisfied - she now wants all signals off 36 East)

Thanks. I was trawling the archive and spotted that vertical was considered important and you know how it is - you want to squeeze the maximum performance from your kit no matter how small it is or how big your wife thinks it is!!

I must admit, though, I was pretty pleased and relieved to get the move completed without a hitch.
