Ive been given a couple of these old 16 channel walkie talkies. I believe they operate somewhere up around the pmr frequencies and are around 20 years old.. Does anyone know if its possible to reprogramme them as general pmr as heaven only knows what settings are currently on them :D The only references to programming them Ive been able to find are via dos! :-rofl2

What is on the sticker behind the battery ?

H05SDD9AA4DN or H05SDD9AA4AN

I would guess they are the first 70cm type

The flat top antenna is probably the giveaway

Neither :D

H05RDD9AN4DN
These have a thinner longer antenna than on the pic although I have seen one with that sort of stubby antenna recently & I might try and get it if the radios can be reprogrammed.

Indeed hmmm - its been a very long time since I played with dos! I'll try to charge them up and see if I can find out what frequencies they are programmed to. I might be able to use my little baofeng to find out. Failing that - I'll sit under the sdr antenna and see what turns up when I hit the ptt :D

I can allways ask my Motorola guy, he is retired (lives in Idaho) but may know where to get it, or what may be needed.

You also may need a RS-232 DB 25 port on a PC, I havent seen one of those since Windows 98 came out

I quit buying all those expensive radios and switched over to these.....

They are cheap, and re-programmable via a sim card, or diredt from a USB port on any PC/MAC with the free software.

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!

Can probably buy a card with an RS-232 DB 25 port for a PC on eBay for "not a lot of money" - although one might have to invoke "compatability" mode on a Win 10 (or Win 8?) PC (though fewer problems likely on a 32 bit OS m/c)

I've seen the DB 25/RS-232 to USB adapters on Amazon.

I use a DB-9/RS-232 to USB on my weather station interface, works fine on W7 and W10.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Plenty youtubers who enjoy playing with radios, if they're interested you could probably flog them off to them for video-making purposes...

Or I could sling them in the skip and save a shed load of hassle wrapping them up & visiting the post office!

Well yes, but it would get you out of the house.

I've just climbed out of the pond after the neighbours used a nailed pece of wood to collect a ball from the other side of the fence.
(The - rare - newts have already scarpered but I caught six frogs in the remaining sludge. It's the last pond in the road so they all congregate here in the spring.)

I do have software for something similar and I don't think it was a DOS appplication, but will have to check

Will Monday be OK ?

Ive got to get the connection cable before I do anything.

Ive just been playing with programming the Boafeng UV-9R using chirp. Thats lovely to use - recommended instead of hundreds of button presses.
