Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
So the post is on the other side of the fence facing the neighbours, but I'll have a look putting one on this side too.
A picture might explain the situation a little better.

When the neighbours aren't around in the garden just quietly bolt/screw your own post to the one in the corner - preferably with the Zone 1 mount fitted to avoid the noise of doing that with your post fitted to "theirs" :-rofl2

Would that hold as there is that crack/split in the post.

The fence has been up since 2002 by the way.

Given that it is a corner post and is braced by the two fence panels, then it will certainly be strong enough for a Zone 1 dish & mount.

Nevertheless, screw/bolt your new post to the other exposed face of the post with long enough screws to go right through the split as that will actually make "their" post stronger.

rather spend £6 & get your own post , fix it in the ground bit away from fence and then bolt whatever you like and make as much noise as you like :oops:

I've just went out and had another look, so the sweet spot is where the pile starts on the left. Right where the thin slap is standing up.

I have a good view of the eastern sats here, the ones that are instructed elsewhere.

So if I wanted to use a multi lnb dish, probably 60-80cm - I assume I would need a stronger pole for this?

Can't remember what pole you had chosen but it would need to be wider diameter than would be adequate for a Zone 1 dish and would need to fixed in the ground as discussed earlier - but here's maybe another option!:

- Fix 3x horizontal battens between the corner fence post that we can and the one out of the picture to the left - vertically spaced out by around 2ft
- Fix a thicker vertical batten to those at the point where the thin slab currently is and screw that through the horizontal battens, and possibly into the fence into the horizontal braces on the other side like the panel on the righthand side
- bolt the dish mount to the vertical batten - preferably at the height where the fence panel on the left has the centre horizontal brace like the panel on the righhand side.

If the dish looks a bit lik sagging then a simple brace from below the dish mount to a concrete slab placed on the ground below would provide any additional support necessary (i.e. no hole necessary)

PS: Get a decent 80cm dish as it's not worth bothering with a conventional 60cm-70cm dish because those are hardly bigger than a Zone 1 or Zone 2 dish (and certainly try to avoid a TRIAX or similar dish for the reasons pointed out earlier!)

I've had a fixed Channel Master 1.2M on a fence post (about 5.5ft above ground, 2.5ft below) before without problem, an 80cm should not cause bother. A 4" by 4" post should allow one or two of those 9" 'C' shaped brackets to fit nicely.

You are worrying too much I seen 1 meter dish mounted on the 75x75 mm wooden post

What dishes would you recommend around 80cm?

I've had a look at the technomate ones so far, both mesh and solid.

Gibertini 85 cm Professional Series Aluminium Antenna

Thanks, do you know of any genuine sellers, ideally UK based?

I just spoke to Tony from Hisat and he doesn't have this one no more.

Since the 'B' word getting hold of Gibertini dishes has become more difficult (and expensive).

I thought you already had a dish? At least give it a go first.

Yeah, I'll most likely start with the zone 1 dish and then go bigger at a later date if need to.

Just to check that I have this right

So if I get a timber post like the one below

I can just screw a zone 1 dish straight on to it?

And if I want to go bigger, I get two brackets like the one below, attach a proper pole to them and put the dish on the pole?

Yes zone 1 will screw into it I believe. I prefer the brackets like this with steel angle rather than flat, I'm sure I've seen them in Wickes but can't find it on the site:

If you already have the zone 1, how far apart are the mounting holes on the wall bracket?

I only have the arm not the wall bracket, they’re about 1 inch apart on here.

Without the wall bracket you won't be able to adjust the dish as the arm bolts solidly to the rear of the dish IIRC. The arm can be attached to a pole with a U-bolt or similar, the right sized bits can be bought on eBay or Amazon.
