Hi Guys
Am a newbie to this hobby having bought a 1.2 motorised system from a friend who is returning back to South Africa.

I need help.
How do i receive Multichoice Africa here in the UK.

I came across a site http://www.digicams-uk.com selling a Multichoice viewing card (12 months) for over £700 and recommending that the ideal dish size should be a 7m for KU band at Eutelsat W4 @ 36 degrees E.

A glance through the March issue of "What Satellite" advices that a 75cm dish would be fine.

Can anyone advise on what size dish I need to watch Eutelsat W4 in West London and also how to get a Multichoice viewing card less than £700
Cheers

I understand from my research that Irdeto 2 has not been hacked yet but any advise on how I can viewing Multichoice Africa in London without paying alot of £ would be welcome.

You are really going to struggle on that satellite which is using the central African beam if you click here you can see that the footprint is no where near Europe let alone the UK hence the size of dish required which you would never be able to either afford or get planning permission for.

I came across a site h*tp://www.digicams-uk.com selling a Multichoice viewing card (12 months) for over £700 and recommending that the ideal dish size should be a 7m for KU band at Eutelsat W4 @ 36 degrees E.

That is a lot of money just to watch TV again assuming you could afford the dish

A glance through the March issue of "What Satellite" advices that a 75cm dish would be fine.

I have not read the article so I do not know what they were referring to but there is a bid difference between 7.00 mtr and 75cm

I understand from my research that Irdeto 2 has not been hacked yet but any advise on how I can viewing Multichoice Africa in London without paying alot of £ would be welcome.
In the words of a collegue of mine if you want it you pay for it unless someone else know any different

If you do a forum search for multichoice africa you will come across a few threads like this one but you will need C band equipment and a very clear line of sight towards the East and I doubt you have that at your location

There are 2 sources for Multi Choice Africa:

Ku band on W4 at 36E:
On an African spot beam - no chance in the UK

C & Ku band on PAS 7 & 10 @ 68E
-Ku band is on a south Africa spot beam so you can forget that immediately
-Cband - possible in the UK, dont know the dish size required off hand, butsomething in the range of 1.5m - 3 m probably. Details will be on the forum somewhere - use the search to find out.

BUT - 68E is very low on the horizon in the UK - about 10 degrees in Lobndon, so unless you have absolutely ideal take off to the south east with no hills and no tower blocks, you dont have much hope

Hi Rolf,

There is also a number in each country for DSTV subs. Here in Congo we are all pissed off as there are two versions of the Sports Channels one for SA and the others for the rest of Africa. On the Other Africa they have reduced dramatically the number of Premier League games shown. A couple of years ago they showed every single game live 380 games! Now its only a couple over the weekend and the midweek games. The 4pm Sunday game normally the big game is also not shown anymore.
They do show some Championship games which could mean I could see Reading next season if they are not careful!

Cheers

Can't you get Multichoice South Africa of IS7 68.5E ? At least in Lubumbashi 2 years ago the Ku-Band could easily be received with 1.80m. I don't know if the beam gets difficult further North.

Would there be any chance of some pictures at all of your box getting these MC channels on 68e? I'm asking because i'm not too far from your location and if I ever moved I would invest in C-band. What kind of signal do you get with it on your 1.8m dish? Also is your 1.8m dish motorised, does it go all the way around the ark ?
