I designed and made this 'floating shelving' unit for my AV stuff as i couldn't find anything suitable or it was to expensive,i aslo made the speaker stands, they have sand inside the 4 posts for sound absorption.Just thought i'd share my photos as i'm quite pleased with it.The shelves are made from 10mm acrylic,i drilled 3 holes for the red LED's.The shelving still has the white protective cover on it as i have to do some painting!!
Speakers are B&W,sound bloody fantastic when its 5.1 DTS etc
In order on the shelving:

Technomate 1500,free premier footy/films and other 'educational' films
LG DVD player
Sky
Yamaha DSP

Sorry for the low quality photos, poor lighting and camera phone don't go together

Have you really got the centre speaker on the floor or is it on the shelf directly under the panel?

Nice set up:)

Only thing that would put me off, are the led`s.

Don`t they distract you while watching tv?

Thanks for your comments.I don't really notice the LED's to be honest, the shelving kinda diffuses them a little but it doesn't distract me from watching tv.

Don't you get dislocation of sound with the image and sound ~4 ft. apart?
And when sounds pan from side to side does it also not sound a bit "odd"?

It says in the B&W DM601 manual to space the speakers at least 1.5 metres apart to maintain left/right seperation.
The CC6 speaker should be either above or below the tv,whichevers closest to ear level and align it so its face is level with the tv's.I could/might/will move it in the near future,i'm just experimenting at the moment.

Looks clean and nice now, keep it as it is.

You might change the wallpaper on the back wall, but it's too late now i guess....that border in the wallpaper is not nice to have right in the face.

Very impressive Oily.
I like the way this system takes care of the ventillation problem, since all devices are in non-enclosed shelves.
Any problem with the weight, especially with the AV receiver which looks quite heavy to me?
Might be wise to fix each device to it's shelf somehow in order to prevent accidental fall.
One member, I think it was Turok, got his Nokia receiver damaged after a fall, and the tuner needs to be replaced.
The price of these shelving systems is outrageous.
I settled for three Ikea TV stands (3 for the price of 2) and have all the devices alongside each other on the top with the loudspeakers at the far left and right and TV in the middle. This way I didn't need LS stands.
Wiring is very easy as I can make changes having full access to the back of all the devices, without getting backache and ventillation is not an issue.
The shelves are for storage of media, not for putting any device inside.

If it is a CRT TV set, then I wouldn't have it too close to it because the magnetic fields from the LS might cause picture didtortion.
Not sure about LCD. Don't have one at the moment.
