Just got too many rigs to work on at the moment to go DXing on the nearest hill.

Todays job was unlocking a TTi tcb881 rig. Moving a surface mount component, to get 25-30 mhz 400 channels.

Hi Paul, you will have to let me know when you go, I made another antenna the other day a T2LT very easy to make and works ok, it would be good for the hills.

Yep-most just need tuning, some need more extensive stuff-of which certain components just arent made any more - like certain PLL phase lock loops. I have a concorde 2 which needs a PLL 02a chip. Unavailable now so i robbed one from a MK1 binatone route 66. These rigs are 30 years old now thats the problem.

I always wanted a Yaesu 7700 back in my SW days, but I couldnt afford it. I got a Realstic DX300 for £99 when Walsall Tandys opened waaaay back in 1980 ish instead!

I was an occasional contributor to the SW column by Brian someone in Practical Wireless for several years.

Are the annual Radio St Helena days still going? - I used to enjoy them with good signals despite the low power they were using.

Then the spoilsport idiots cottoned on and sat on the frequency for hours at a time ruining the reception with het whistles

I dont know AS, a lot has changed. All i know is that really from 25.615 Mhz up to 28Mhz there are Eastern European women rabbiting booming in on sporadic E skip like last Sunday morning. If they would give you five minutes you could hear yanks coming in on AM and LSB!

The last one was November 2009. I got the QSL for that plus one previous one. My other best DX catch was VLQ9 the domestic shortwave ABC service for Queensland, long gone now. Very tough catch on a FRG7 around midday as I recall. I have their QSL card somewhere. I still have the FRG7, but now I mainly use the JRC NRD 525 and the Eton E1.

Just as an aside I see a new receiver from JRC the NRD 383 has been announced, very preliminary information on the internet. But it will be something like 50,000 dollars, so time to get saving.
