My neighbour has a problem with his receiver.
I don't really know anything about it, so maybe someone can help.
He's got an Amstrad DRX 100 Sky box.
He's watching some programmes from Hotbird, as far as I can see.
He can watch (or hear):
Rai News 24
SAT 2000
Radio Uno

He can't watch (or hear):
TVE Internacional
Canal Clasico
Teledeporte
Hispavision
TVE Asia - Africa
Nostalgia
Canal 24 Horas
Libre-Carta
Radio 1
Radio Clasica
Radio 3
Radio 5
Radio Exterior

He used to be able to watch all these channels, but hasn't been able to for a while. He hasn't got a card in his receiver.
The receiver says (when he switches to one of the channels, which he can't watch): "There is a technical fault with this channel. Please try later."

What's wrong?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All Spanish channels used to be on 12092 MHz Horizontal

About six months ago a new frequency was launched at 11785 MHz Horizontal

If this has not been added to the manual tune of the Amstrad then the unit will not find them. You now have to go into the installers menu and wait for the signal bar and BER to change before bringing up the channel names to store in the 'other channel' list

Additionally a number of receivers, Humax, Echostar to name two have been reported as having great trouble receiving this frequency owing to a notch in the tuner sensitivity at this point

Take your own receiver round to test that your friend can indeed see these channels before spending time on manually tuning an Amstrad digibox

:)
Went over to my neighbour to try and sort out the problem.
It was very very simple.
The frequency was ok...but it was Vertical, instead of Horizontal.
It was on 2/3 as well, instead of 3/4.
So now she can follow her Spanish soap operas again :)

(She was very very happy, and just about to kiss me...but a hug was enough for me - she's old, married and not my type (READ: UGLY) - why is it not like some certain films, where the guy comes and fix the pretty young lady's stuff, and get's his reward afterwards?)???

Wouldnt know anything about films of this type (with maybe the Comic Strip Dirty Movie as an exception)

Almost all the Spanish have deserted Hotbird now. You should find Clasico on Astra 19E and Hispasat 30W but they will not be FTA.
