Rumours tells all the armements have been removed and are now in Paris. Sold to the french police, to provide adequate response to troublesome peasants invading the capital.

But another rumour says they are sold to the peasants, to help provide access to the Elysée and take care of a troublesome president.

lol

Explanation emerges for why it got flooded (incl. generators and engines) so quickly, the ships of these class are fitted with a hollow propeller shaft. So damage to the shaft allowed water to flow inside shaft and emerge here and there, passing through any existing watertighting system. Now the Norwegians and Spanish are quarelling about who is responsible for the construction choices defects.

But a great solution has been found :O) they have put some inflatable plastic bags inside the propeller shaft, to (possibly) block water ingress. So these 1\2 billion euros ships needs some pieces of plastic to save them from built-in sinking properties. lol.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Sounds like someone'll be going into hiding for such a cock-up, I wouldn't want to be the engineer who came up with that design right now... :-rofl2

Salvage\lifting still on hold, with date 'next year'. Seems nobody knows how to do it.

Some pictures. A few days with a screwdriver and hammer + some paint and all will be well lol

Good, I'll pop over in a coracle with some pliers in the New Year, distract the military police and you get half the booty.

Since the crash, they have not managed to lift the carcass even 1 cm.

The megacrane has been laying 99,9% idle since arriving near the scene at the end of November, only very briefly being in action for securing and preparation tasks. Owners and crew must be very, very happy, making a fortune while on a long holiday.

Total costs so far around 50 million euros, and everything still only maybe's and if's. But they got to try something someday. After seing what's been (not) done until now, am expecting only more ridiculous troubles and delays, but wish them luck and success.

Results after 3 months:

Ahh, now I suddenly understand the why and how: it got a '13' number painted on it !

To be a little more fair, some of the money and time has been used stopping pollution, emptying fuel tanks, removing ammo\missiles\torpedos etc, which has been successful.

Hmm it would have been very embarassing all round if a missile had gone off & torpedoed the crane :D

^^^ Frankly, am just waiting for some next big 'thing' happening in the region. With the current frenetic activity to pump up money from the ever increasing offshore wells (faster, less cost etc), waking up one morning to news of a local 'Deepwater Horizon' (was on film4 the other day) would not be surprising at all.

I can see the front mounted dish (1.2 ish) taking on water, but the conning tower has been coated in - rather good - invisibility paint.

The whole wreck sucessfully moved to another harbour, where they will lift it onto a barge.
After all the initial fumbling, they are getting the hang of it :O)

I do not know why they are bothering it will be too expensive to refurbish and rebuild the ship after this length of time submerged unless of course some insurance policy will be invoked and the cost will be spread amongst their other clients

Donald 313 is up on the barge. Great job. I like these cranes
icon_biggrin.gif
, should have a pair in my toolbox.

Next, will be lifted unto dry land, the navy brass still imagine somehow that after 3,5 months+ in saltwater they can get it repaired and again be a fully working warship...

. The metalwork, surely yes. But saving and keeping the engines etc, the electronics etc, navigation systems etc, km's of wiring, the weapon systems etc ??? Not.

Would be funny later on, after spending 250 million euros, missiles and torpedos suddenly firing by themselves in the middle of the night, or not firing at all when in some conflict situation, navigation \ engine controls failing at full speed with ship colliding and sinking 2 weeks after finishing the socalled repair.

Makes me wonder if there's something "top secret" aboard or about that ship, why else would they raise it from the sea bed with intent to rebuild it? :confused

Or maybe they just think it's like with old wooden boats, sinking them to preserve them before they get restored...

Nearly... navy "experts" have been onboard harvesting printed circuit boards, which thereafter been put into water again to "avoid oxidizing", with the goal of renovation and re-use  Totally bonkers. Even a limping, fleainfested backalley dog would know better how to properly deal with these parts (...destroy them immediately, so noone finds them in a forgotten shelf somewhere and f.ex. puts them to use in one of the sisterships, with potential catastophical consequences). It ain't electronics anymore, even if by miracle working during a few days testing, it's timebombs.
