I need the following from a purchase I am to make for a customer , to replace a diabolically bad LG DVD player they bought four years ago.

BluRay playing capability
DVD playing
T2 tuner
Hard drive for recording of terrestrial, capacity really not important,
external input for recording satellite signals to hard drive, SCART input or RCA
Ability to burn a DVD-R / RW with the content from drive (analogue signals) at a later date with suitable editing on the player.

Can anyone advise on a machine that does all the above ? Ive seen all but T2 tuner and Bluray in the earlier Panasonic DVRs I have used but is there a recent Bluray out there that does this without the expense of going up to the recorders and a £650 budget ?

Thanks in advance.

Anyone ?

From my own investgations I appear to have narrowed it down to a Panasonic DMR series machine, but I can't find much more recent than the 720 model.

THe others viewed (Panasonic PWT655 and Samsung BD-H8900) cannot record from external sources as far as I can see

Those things are so damn expensive that you may not find anyone with direct experience. From reading around my thoughts were also directed towards the Panasonic range but it's the requirement to record from external sources that makes it so difficult.

And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

This is the only one I know of that will allow the recording from HDMI inputs (and other types of inputs) directly to BlueRay disk. (there are others but this one is a good brand that I trust)

Thanks, but I did mention that a full BluRay recorder is not really an option at the price.

My clients really only needs hard drive recording (with DVD burning) but I am hesitant to buy a machine for them knowing it is a dead format. Most UK models have sacrificed the external input for other value added stuff such based on the ethernet such as the FreeView 7 day catchup (FreePlay ?)and then bundled Bluray on top.

I could however consider a good condition secondhand Panny DVR model if one comes up.

Video capture dongle

Some box, Wetek, Raspberry or Cubietruck ? (and if needed, a T2 dongle)
Some external optical drive
There are now terabyte usb sticks so maybe it can replace a harddisk.
Probably a lot of tweaking needed but maybe doable.

How about a satellite box like VU+ SOLO SE V2 with dual tuner one for satellite and the other for T2?
It has 2 USB connectors + eSATA connector.
Use one USB for the external HDD for recording and the second to connect a BD/DVD player/writer.
Not sure if this will work, but I have a Samsung external DVD writer with USB cable which I can test if you like.
It worked on a PC of course.
Here is a link for few gadgets

.
Solo puedes poner un tuner de satelite o de TDT, no tienen satelite y TDT.
Opcion B es poner un tuner de TDT por USB.

You can only put a satellite tuner or DTT, no satellite and DTT.
Option B is to put a DTT tuner USB.

Yes you are correct. I must have been thinking of the 4K

Thanks for the advice, I have in the past 24 hours managed to locate the last of the Panasonic players before they are superseded by the modern stuff with a single HDMI output. I had originally discounted a full BluRay recorder on price.

I had mentioned the 720 earlier, but these are rare, however the European version is still about and whilst Currys are trying to sell them off at a premium in Ireland (E630 )

they are selling them on eBay for a little over 350 pounds including next day delivery from their Durham depot.

PANASONIC DMR-BWT740EB Smart 3D Blu-ray Recorder Freeview+ HD Recorder Black

Still not sure if this has a single or dual SCART on the rear, but it does allow external AV recording, which was a priority.
