I need some help please guys and girls, I’m planning on installing a satellite setup from start to finish but need advice on what I need to use for a motorised dish install, cable type, receiver recommended, dish recommended, etc. I am extremely new to all of this and just need some expert advice from you.
i don’t have a massive budget in fact I would like to do this as cheap but as efficiently as possible, this is for a new project for myself.

i will be doin the install myself so any pointers for this also would be greatly appreciated.

In which case whereabouts in the UK are you ?

I do have equipment here that would make up the vast majority of what you need (at least outside) for less than that.

How good are your neighbours ?

I’m up in Newcastle, Uk, I’m just wanting to some advice on what to buy and what a decent budget is because I don’t want to waste my time and efforts on sub standard equipment. Appreciate any advice. Don’t want to upset the neighbours.

If you are not looking for fringe reception satellites, then a dish in the region of 80-90cm should get you hundreds of free to air channels on many satellites, a DiSEqC motor and wall mount with a Linux receiver and cheap satellite pointer should cost less than £300.

+1, agreed.

There is a satellite equipment supplier close to you that are based in Rowlands Gill. Lookup "Satellite Superstore", they will probably have everything in stock that you need. They are not the cheapest supplier and you could save money by buying individual items elsewhere or a complete second hand setup from eBay or Gumtree. However, they are local to you and can probably advise you on what equipment precisely fits your needs.

The equipment is defined by your need, ie, what satellites and frequency bands you wish to be able to receive

Agreed MB, Dave or Noel as SSS are very helpful, but are not the cheapest around. They also did a series of videos about satellite theory and self installation, but I think they are no longer available, but you could ask if you speak to them, they may still have a copy..

@David1974m please be aware of the disadvantages of motorized setups. Can get you all satellites visible but there's sats you may be not interested at all, in the beginning you may think it's a good idea having as many channels you can, but in practice you will not watch them and you may end with a restricted setup in terms of multi receiver/tuner use and limited access to channels/sats by those receivers/tuners. e.g say you want to record something on one sat and watch another channel on a different sat.

Have you thought about multifeed, using same fixed dish?

There are also the advantages that whilst some satellites initially do not have useful channels on them, this can change as broadcasters pick and choose the best deal for their regional coverage.
