I have just installed Neotion videolink instant record edition and (in a fashion) I can record direct from my Neotion 501 dsr. to my pc via usb. My problem is that the recordings tend to be hesitant with occasional pixelation and appearing to drop frames. Although my computer is not high spec it would appear to me to fit with the system requirements specified by Neotion in the user manual.
My computer Epia mini ITX 800mhz, 248ram, usb ,winXP. Neotion recommend 300mhz cpu with 128M ram.
Any suggestions as to whether this is fixable with my pc would be welcome.

I would consider the amount of RAM you have as being the absolute minimum for a Windows XP system, so not really surprised if it is struggling.

Absolutely Rolf, also if the PC is reporting 248 this is not the norm 256 is which suggests that the ram may be a piecemeal collection of smaller strips and one of the chips has developed a minor fault. Also since cableman is running XP he may as well do CTRL ALT DEL and check the number of processes running at the same time. Anywhere betwen 30 and 40 processes will cause frame dropping, stop what you don't need running. Also if the processor is a 800 MHz then that suggests the mother board is only capable of supporting USB1.1, unless of course you have fitted a USB2 PCI card. The speed difference between the two I understand is a factor of 48, more than likely your problem I would say.

Thanks guys for your advice. I have looked inside and found two memory slots with just one 256 dimm in place (although the system 'sees' 248 ram). The pc manual says 1gb is the max supported. The usb is only v1.1.
Would it perhaps be a solution to upgrade with a 512mb in the other slot and if possible a usb2 pci card? I should add that I get the same dreadfull video pereformance when playing dvds.
I am not concerned that the playback on the pc is poor; more important to me is to be able to copy well from my dsr to HD and then to burn good vds (that is if I eventually decide it to be worth upgrading the cd writer to a dvd writer. Some people have suggested that the hard drive could be the problem, I don't know, this is all a bit above my knowledge, but having had a taste of pvr recording, albeit with poor results, I am keen to try to sort this out if possible.
Thanks again guys.
