Just received my dreambox today.

After searching H'sat for channels I selected one and the screen just went blank.
Now I have no menus and no access through the network. Any idea how I can get the menus back? It swiches on and off via the front panel, but thats it, nothing at all with the remote.

It's possible the firmware/image is kippered. It is very rare, almost impossible, to damage the machine from the remote, but the thing is prone to corrupt the software.
First eliminate a trivial matter. If you not-knowing pressed the TV button, top right on the handset, then press Dream button, top left. Does the button light up? Does it all work now? If not:
Then pull the mains plug. Wait the canonical 30 sec. Insert plug and watch TV screen and LCD on DB. If TV stays black, and there is no text on LCD, then the image is knackered and you will have to re-flash. Try this and report back.

you can also press the three buttons on the front panel of the DB to do a reboot

I'm starting to get used to the DB locking up a couple of times a day......Thinking of going back to my Ultra :( (Tuners much better as well!)

My TiVo sits there with a PowerPC proc & Linux OS & has uptimes you can measure in months.............

I very rarely have to reboot my DB, running the Black Tiger image, don't think it's the unit, more the flakey nature of some of the images.

PS. That is not knocking the people who make them, but many are effectively beta releases.

Hi Chuckles
What image have you got loaded. Do a reflash with the latest say Hydra image using flash wizzard pro 4.5a. Then come back. Someone will be here to help you on your way.

Its been driving me crazy since that post. I had to reload the image using a null modem cable. It still crashes every hour or so! I've never managed to reboot by pressing all buttons. The only solution on my box seems to be to unplug it and wait 5 minutes then plug it in again. Bit like a bloody S*y digibox but worse if thats possible!

Chuck, before you reflash with the null modem cable, do you do a full erase first? i.e. Erase, re-flash and then, if Hydra, use up button to flash erase before, alas, you search for channels again. That first erase clears possible corrupt junk or a legacy from default image. This happened to me at the start and one of the more experienced here helped me through.

Hi chuckles!
You still havent mentioned what image you are trying to use or
even where you got it from.
You must follow what haggard has just mentioned but you may be
working with a corrupt image?

You think so? I dont know, the tuner is weaker than my ancient E'star 3000 and what extra channels can I get? Everything is closing up for us as well as others.

The fact that many channels have been 'lost' to us is not really the fault of the Dreambox. It's all part and parcel of the whole hobby experience. I still think that there's loads of chanels open. More than I can watch anyway.

I think it's the best purchase I ever made. The Dreambox and the PC are often first with any new/updated channels (e.g. TPS, Polsat), as it's only a software upgrade. If it's a card-only option (i.e. MII/Opos), it should do much of that without a CAM as well. Flippin' marvellous!

The Dreambox is never going to exclusively open any channels (well, for more than a few days anyway).

Maybe we'll have S2 back without a card soon too?!?!

Exciting times!
