well, looks like my pace 2500 receiver is now stuck on the updating software option and i just simply cannot get it working anymore, even if i try to do the manual software update - anyone else experiences with this model and is it a case of having to buy a new one now or is it worth having fixed (and where)?

i live very much in fringe reception area, so presume pace 2600 would be my best bet, my question is, can i just buy one off ebay without having to worry about it with my sky card? ie. would i have to check it's not one of these free boxes connected to phone lines and wouldn't work outside uk/without the original card?

Don't worry mate If its a 2600 then chances are that its over a year old and out of contract. I presume that you are not tied to any contract so you have no worryies with telephone wires having to be connected - especially in your location. As for marrying the card to the box, its not even nessessary unless you have the sports or movies package and even if you have to phone them its easy enough, just turn the number display off on your mobile.

same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago with my old(ish) amstrad . I feel like blaming Sky and their bloody software updates for buggering my box and creating the whole mess

I was very unsure about getting a good deal on E-bay , so i bought a new PACE box for £128 +p.p. from digiboxshop.com in the uk , delivery day after to europe . easy .
One 'safe' call to Sky and its up and running , sorted .
