Echostar has just released a new line of products that look supperb. It means that my beloved AD3000IP is no longer part of the top line product suite. :( The new DVR-7000 ( http://www.echostar.nl/b2c/products/products.asp?menulink=receivers&mainlink=hdd )with 40GB low noise harddrive, mp3 player and new gadgets just tookover X(. Iwill have to spend lots of money on that one. By the way does anyone where you can buy it and what the estimete street price will be? Does anyone allready have it? :D

I have one.
I posted on this a couple of weeks ago, as soon as it hit the market.

2old you are making me jealous! :) It looks very nice but at 850£ seems quite expensive comparing to 1122DM (355£) for nokia 9902S also equiped with a 40GB HDD.

Another question would be haw are movies stored on the hard drive? MPEG2 files? Can you upload them to your computer via USB? What operating system is it running? I guess it is proprietary but what is based on??

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Nov-01 AT 12:53 PM (GMT)]You can also follow these issues at the Satnerds site (see the forums: they include specific forums for these receivers)
http://www.satnerds.com

The Nokia 9902S is not comparable to the Echostar DVR7000. The Nokia is apallingly slow, has no positioner, no analogue tuner, no magnetic/polarotor polarisor drives, only one CI slot, no MP3 player, and by comparison to the Echostar a primitive interface & software which is also by all accounts less stable.

If you don't need the positioner & analogue, you shouldn't even be looking at the 7000. Look instead at the 5000. It's much cheaper (two-thirds the price of teh 7000)

HDD recordings are stored in MPEG form, and there is additional encryption applied. There is no way of getting it "out" to a PC or VCR. This is the case with ALL HDD-enabled receivers, and it is pimarily to reduce the risk of exposing what is essentially the raw data stream. If that were to be hacked, then the whole edifice of encryption would come down in one fell swoop.

The main power plant of the 7000 is a new IBM Risc processor that runs approximately three times faster than even the fast RISC chip in the ad3000 series. Don't know the spec off the top of my head.

Yes I know that nokia is inferior to Echostar (that is why I own an AD3000 :D) but still it is very expensive compared to AD3000IP. 1360€ it is a lot of money! And still 2/3 of 1360€ it is still a lot of maney and you are loosing the polarotor. X( I think Echostar jumped a little bit to high with the price this preventig this beatyfull models to become top sellers. a nokia 9800S is arround 320€ while 9902S is arround 580$ meaning 80% higher while an 2110viaccess is arround 330€ while the 5000€ is arround 950€ meaning 290% HIGHER X(. I hope that echostar will realize this and drop the prices FAST. The encryption thing is unfortunate but I hope not unhackable!
