A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Had a scary moment last night, the new positioner started chucking up er2 and wouldn’t then move the dish east.

Checked all the cables from the Positioner to the jack and using an old superjack ez-2000 positioner and the dish moves east and west with out a problem.

So I have dug out my alsat positioner that is working at the moment.

The buzzing it gives off is starting to drive me up the wall!!

Is the ASC1 Satellite Dish DiSEqC Positioner any good?

Is it worth the money?

Who is a good supplier?

No, and no.

Buzzing can be fixed. Open the unit and tighten down the bolts holding the transformer down. A quid on that they are loose.

I have a Titanium ASC1 positioner here, it is in almost brand new condition and comes with the original box. I flashed the firmware to a recent version at the time about a year ago and I think I loaded it with a full UK arc satellite list using a csv file.

In my personal opinion, compared to an RC2000 dual axis positioner the ASC1 unit is a pile of junk.
However, for £100 delivered this ASC1 can be in the post to you today.

Chris,

The RC2000 units are manufactured by Research Concepts, a USA based company. They need to be sourced second hand unless you are prepared to shell out four bags of sand for a new one. Your best bet is eBay, they pop up on eBay.co.uk now and again and on eBay.com quite a lot.

A few of us on here bought some second hand RC2000 units from Andrew Jones, a reseller of used satellite equipment. He had somewhere between 20 or 30 of them available at the time, he bought them as a job lot from SIS when they upgraded their van fleet.

It might be worthwhile contacting Andrew to see if he has any left. I paid around £120 plus delivery per unit. At that price they are about the same cost as a brand new ASC1 but the RC2000 units are commercial grade dual axis positioners and on a completely different level to the consumer grade stuff. I have pasted a link to Andrew's web site below.

The RC2000 units come in several variants such as the RC2000A, RC2000C and RC2000X. The RC2000A is good enough for most users, the C and X variants add auto tracking capability for inclined orbit satellite whereby the unit uses an algorithm in conjunction with a beacon receiver to auto jog the dual axis actuators to keep a lock on the inclined satellite.
