hi, all you satellite enthusiasts.i too am fascinated by all what is available via satellite.im currently living in amsterdam and the proud owner of a manhattan MX. this box is brilliant, but once i get all the keys and codes figured out its gonna be even better.hopefully just in time for the new football season.i have sky+,but who wants to pay 75 quid to watch football, when its available freely on satellite. i guess the rules state i have to post a few more times before i can start receiving mail etc.so i'll go surfing now and i'll post again soon.happy viewing everybody.

Hi Twag, welcome to the forum

Let us know what other parts of the satellite system you have and what you can presently receive, you may be surprised at what else is out there with your box of bits

hi CH,this system ive got has built in decoding for viacess 1+2,seca1+2,irdeto and nagravision. The box is currently set to default and with that i get viacess1 and irdeto1.living in Holland that allows me to receive the dutch channels.(irdeto) ive been on sirius 5*E,and im able to receive most of whats on offer there.viasat sport,cinema,tv1000 as well as the scandinavian MTV,nickelodeon etc.On hotbird i can pick up quite a lot of the french broadcasts,Multivision,BBC Prime,Boomerang, theres lots of channels that are scrambled that this system unscrambles.i like the language button which allows me to change the audio into English. This is very handy for Astra1(19.2*E)and changing TCM from french to English. The guy at the satellite shop said its possible to change the keys to receive all the channels, but unfortunately i have no idea how to do that.I'm sure given time that i will learn eventually.I would like to be able to access conax and the channels that are available on Thor 2 3.The football season is still a couple of months away so theres still plenty of time to learn.well thats it from me for now, have a good day etc and happy surfing(or channel hopping!!)

Channel Hopper i see youve been a member here since 2000,you must have quite a lot of experience and knowledge about the satellites.Pardon my ignorance, but i have lived in Canada for most of my life and moved back to the UK in '98 and was under the impression that the only satellite available was SKY.How wrong am i?? But thats the NW attitude for you,and especially that of the people of Fleetwood.Almost all the houses have sky but not proper satellite telly. When i was living in the north of Canada i had a 10' dish with a videocipher2 descrambler,i used to watch all kinds of good telly.i was pretty good at finding football etc on the wild-feed channels.Since ive got this Manhattan MX here in Amsterdam,im beginning to get the same sort of pleasure that i used to get whilst living in Canada.Like i said in my first post i have sky+,mostly for ITV.and i had prem+,but now ive cancelled all that except for itv and the ukgold package, and am gonna find the matches on satellite.I have no problem watching football with a spanish/german/??? commentary.I like watching for free!!!(i think you know what i mean :-))

Just had a wonderful afternoon changing the dish on the roof.the wind here was playing havoc with the 110cm dish,so i replaced it with the smaller 88cm triax. I thought i would lose some of the signal strength but so far all is good, and not much bouncing around because of the wind.Storms are forecast for tonight so i hope the dish survives!!

Hi Twag

My experience comes from the hands on approach (plus a number of different jobs in the microwave industry) for nearly 20 years. I would like to say Ive seen it all, but then theres always something new each day.

The consumer business - sales and technical - in the West has taken a bit of a dive lately. All manufacturing is a Far Eastern thing, with maybe a couple of outdoor components (dish and mount) remaining local to Europe . Similarly the the installations slump over in the UK means fewer jobs overall. Competition from Sky, Freeview and TUTV , coupled with mail order DIY kits have really taken their toll on decent jobs, though the communial systems / specialist dish work does provide a welcome input into the wallet.

Its good to know there are still enthusiasts that go out of the way to find stuff , rather than expect it to be delivered on a plate for the subscription.

You could do worse than to flick the dish over to Turksat at 42 East for a lot of the important matches, however you may be giving away a bit of margin by the dish size reduction

hi CH, i was watching football the other night on supersport on turksat.the reason i lowered the dish was the big dishn was bouncing around too much in all this wind we've been having lately.I'm glad that you can also appreciate people like me that look around for receiving equipment etc.I honestly thought that the only satellite available was sky.now ive got this brilliant system,im gonna get much more viewing pleasure.Thats what i said to the mrs. awhile ago(thats how i convinced her we needed a satellite),i could pick up the footy for free, rather than just fork out 75 quid for a subscription.I told my brother about this, but unfortunately he would rather just pay the 75nuggets.I do have a question for you though!! What is the deal with Hispasat?? with the big dish i couldnt pick it up either.yet i could get 62*E. It must be something to do with the dish elevation?? the elevation for Amsterdam is 22.4,and on the motor-mount its set at 49.I was thinking of maybe putting another dish on the roof, only for hispasat.Ialready have the sky,and of course the movable dish as well.(i live in a block of flats and the whole roof is flat and theres only a couple of other dishes up there as well.its gonna end up looking like a cable companys yard up there!

If you have a motorised kit and it moves east and west, then the only problems could be
line of site - trees, buildings in the way, or
Alignment trouble - the arc of the motor is incorrect

Wolsty suffered exactly the same problem with alignment a while ago, took him over a year to sort out, he thought a hill was in the way for ages.

Try looking for satellites progressively West (1, 5, 15 and 22, ) and see where you start losing them

i got as far as 5*W and then nothing. Also last night i tried turksat/Eurasiasat 42*E with the smaller dish no joy.The tree/building other impediments is not a problem here all there is,is just open sky.I think your right in the arc of the motor,in the book it says elevation 52,but the guy at the sat place said 49.i'll change it to 52 and see if that brings me any luck. Its frustrating that i can get 42E but not 30W.What sort of system do you have, and what does it pick up etc??

52 degrees is right for Amsterdam and your due South satellite should be Sirius, once those are set you should be set on approximately the correct arc.

Yes, as it is as near to due South as you can get, you can then always reset to that sat, a great way to tell if your dish has moved off beam.

Always make small adjustments , mark the positions moved on the post and motor brackets with a pencil, and check the new arc after each adjustment .

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!! hispasat has been conquered(haha).im watching bullfighting as we speak(andaluciatv). Hi Schnuffi thanks for the welcome.I lived in Vancouver for a couple of years then moved to Grande Prairie,Alberta.300 miles north of Edmonton.I enjoyed it there but after 15 long prairie winters enough was enough and i moved back to England.I've been living in Holland for the past 5 years and love it here.I'm also having fun with my satellite, something i missed from when i lived in Canada.
