Hi Guys,
sorry to bother you with another noob question but just need a pointer before starting my install.

I have been given
criptyc h-h100 motorised mount,
cal amp single 5db lnb
Technomate tm1500 C1+ reciever. (no instructions)

I am about to buy
85cm dish
wall bracket
cable and connecters.

What I would like to know is should i upgrade my reciever and LNB before i start my install.

The equipment came out of a pub and was working fine before removal. I am told the reciever is a decent model but am worried about set up with no instructions and if the LNB needs updating to a lower noise model.

Thanks in advance

Ron:-doh2

The receiver will be fine and software patches are readily available for that model, a new LNB will only set you back a few pounds, but that one isn't bad.

For brackets, get yourself a set of T&K brackets and a length of scaffold pole, they are easier to get perfectly plumb than other brackets.

If your going for a new dish, there seems to be a lot of talk in the trade regarding the DIGIT-GA Penta style Dish. I have been told they perform very well including IRS communal systems:)

Thanks Rolfw,

Just been lookin now and have found some further info about the tm1500 and think i can handle its setup. As for the LNB Im thinking of going for a decent quad as at some point in the not to distant future (when i can convince her indoors) of upgrading to a reciver with PVR facility. Plus will there be noticeable difference between 3db and 2db?

Regards

Satelliteman i read they have increased gain on standard dishes and as long as there are no motor mounting issues I would be interested to try one. would like to hear if anyone has used one.

Hi guys thanks for the previous help.

I've done a bit of research and have decided on the following components:

INVERTO SILVER TECH 0.2dB TWIN

http://www.pulsat.com/satellite/site/details.php?product_id=260&catID=9

Fracarro Penta 85 ALLUMINIUM

http://www.highdefinitionuk.com/dishes/fracarro-penta-85-alluminium-p-511.html

The lnb is mentioned often online and seems to be a fav among contributers here, The dish also seems to be quite popular and i like the look.
Installation will be taking place over the coming weeks and i will be using the guides found on this forum to do so.

If ok I will give a running commentary as i go to help myself and other noobs learn more.

Thanks again

Ron:)

Look forward to seeing your progress Ron, some photos will be nice. :)

You've certainly made a couple of good choices of equipment. :)

Thanks rolfw,

A little research and a helpful forum go a long way.
pictures will be included in further posts.

One quick question is which cable would you recomend? one of the electrical wholesalers i use has standard sat coax but can get anything i require to order.

Thanks again

How long will the cable run be? I use WF100 for my normal runs, but at the end of the day, most quality all copper cables perform similarly.

hi Rolfw,

cable run will be no more than 20 mts. I've acquired some wf100. Install begins next weekend weather permitting.

Thanks again

there i was all set and ready to install, all equipment bought, tools and drill at the ready brought a ladder home from work and everything.
Then it goes and snows! A bit of rain i can deal with but we got a full on snow storm.

To make matters worse I have to work next weekend so no install for 2 weeks:-Nooo.

Looking at my new dish on the living room floor is getting me down!

Wise not to attempt to install an 85cm dish & motor in the snow Bigron. You need to pick a nice clear day with no wind and crack on. Good luck
