Hi there everyone. Ive been wanting a motorised system for years just never got around to it. Im fed up with sky and saw a full system on ebay so i bought it for £170.
This is what i got for my cash:
Channel master 1.2 mtre dish with off set LNB.
Channel master polar mount.
Channel master 18" Actuator Arm/Motor.
Cambridge 0.6dB Universal LNB
Satellite stand,strong rigid construction with
4'heavy duty mast and 3'out legs with circular base.
Echostar SR-8700 Satellite Receiver with built in Positioner.

Your comments are most welcome.

The guy had it on the floor in his garden but i want to put it on the back of my house which is south facing and has a clear view of the horizon. I currently have sky+ so i would maybe like to get a reciever with twin tuners and hard drive so any suggestions.

My main reason for getting a system is cos i hate footy (which is all sky show) and im a big follower of the NHRA and IHRA in the USA and a couple of people have told me i will be able to recieve ESPN and SPEEDTV so this have yet to find out.

Cheers

Steve

The Echostar is an analogue receiver, but it'll drive your dish using it as a seperate positioner for the actuator. Or when you get a digital STB get one with an integrated positioner. Failing that, your digital box can drive the motor with a 'V-Box' added (this converts the Disecq commands from the receiver to the 36V for moving the dish.

Thanks for that Llew i didnt no it was only analogue so i'll have to look for another digi reciever. I'll check out what people think is the best way to go on here.

Thanks for the info guys. The dish etc was delivered to me today. First ive got to get or make a mount so i can put it on the back of my house. Ive had a look at one on the satellite superstore and will probably copy theres. It has 6 legs and a 2m x 3" pole so i can sit the dish above the gutter.

Next i need to buy some cable but im not sure which to buy so any recomendations please?

I took a look at the links (thanks likvid) but i cant read german so it doesnt help me much. Do any satellite magazines have tests in them giving us an idea of what is the best on the market etc just like car mags do.

Cheers

What is your budget for a reciever? The cheapest ones I have seen are
50.00 in the UK. Or buy a computer pci card for 40.00 but you need a
fast p.c. Pentium 4, AMD athlon etc.
