you are the person who has to use the meter and as long as you are happy with it and it has the features you need then all is well. each person will have there own favourite meter whether they are a professional who does it for a living or a hobby installer who just needs one for their own system and maybe 10 installs a year. im just a sat nut who does the odd install but ive owned quite a few meters over the years.

lacuna mk3
satlook mk3
satlook mk4
hdtm v2.5
hdsm v2.0/v2.5
televes fsm100
promax mc377 X2
promax prolink 1c
satlook micro g2
rover skymaster 2
rover master stc
rover sdm1
rover sdm2
rover tda6
trimax 2200

i now have a horizon hdsm usb+ and rover master stc-eu.. of course none of these meters are really big bucks meters and i think £500 would be the max i would spend on one. i still wouldnt mind getting another analogue spectrum like the satlook or an old promax

That's quite a few meters you've had there. Phew! I know the Horizon meter but don't know the Rover. But yes, I think this one will do me just fine. :)

Well, I bought a new meter as well. After reading about, I decided on the satlook lite from the German firm on eBay for £135 including postage. Was a difficult one as the FS1 was brilliant...but wanted to try something different.

As soon as we get some "good" weather I'll be out in the yard adjusting the kitchen dish. My hands don't like the cold due to carpel tunnel syndrome :(

Been having fun with the new meter as we have a break in the weather. I changed the LNB for the Smart T 2nd edition and the levels improved dramatically as well being able to set the skew properly and watching the level/audio beep increase - brilliant. This meter is one of my better buys and it takes the guesswork out of the equation when using a TV and reciever to set the levels. It's going to serve me well :) Love it!

Does the meter read dvb-s2 signals ?

I'm after something newer than my horizon hdsm v2.5.

Have not tried it on DVB-S2 channels so I have no idea about that Wod. But I certainly like the meter - good bit of kit at the price. You can fine tune the dish using the C/N reading. It's a keeper!

Just as a last note on this. When I use single Smart LNB's I never use the rubber boot which is supplied as this is will allow more water drainage. But I always use amalgam rubber tape on the F connector :). Your views may vary, but it's just a preference.

Compression seal f connector with rubber o-ring inside I use now for outside cables, saves cutting tape off every time you want to tweak/mess about with lnbs.

Just bog standard screw-on connectors plus Boots or Rain Covers here: Never had any problems. Can't see why there would be.

That's what I do.

The supplied boot is one of the better ones. But not as good as self amalgamating tape. ;)

The satlook lite only has a 1 hour battery life does that not bother as the first strike meter has a 3 hour battery life, can you use the satlook lite with the power plugged in ?

Cheers marc

Yes you can use it plugged in but what would be better is if it could be powered by the receiver... It's a huge omission and battery life is nowhere near 1 hour. 20 mins if you're lucky.
