Welcome to the forum.

Depends on what you want to view, but a DiseqC motor and 90cm dish would be a good starting point and enable viewing (subject to sight lines) of many satellites.

I believe that the Fortec is flashable, so no programmer or card should be required, there is also not much use for a funcard now, barring updating.

Are you referring to a PCI satellite card? If so, then you can't go too far wrong with a Skystar2.

And you don't even need to write your own program! Use an application software such as ProgDVB from-

Not sure if you can 'wine' ProgDvb like that, but you seem to have a good grounding in what is Xferable -

If you run a Linux PCI sys then your experiences will be more than welcome here
Good Luck & keep posting :)

Yes, sorry, won't work with Linux. I understand some Hauppauge DVB cards are OK with that OS.

If you are connecting it to your Sky Dish, you need to search on Astra2 28.2 East. Then you should find some channels, otherwise you can use the blind search.

If you haven't done so yet, go to Menu, for User Setup.

Change, (Right Arrow on remote), Antenna Setup, press OK, scroll to Astra 28E.

Press OK, LNB type Universal LNB, scroll to Satellite Scan, Choose FTA., OK to start scan.

You can only do an advanced or power scan after the initial scan. Don't bother with anything other than a FTA scan on 28.2E (Unless you want to add encrypted channels from this spot, which you can't clear on anything other than a S*y digibox) .

Is your dish aligned correctly? Is it a straight swap from your S*y digibox?

In 'Antenna Setup', do the Level and Quality bars show a signal percentage?
