Dual DVB-S2 tuner comes from Dream Multimedia!

August 1, 2015 mmtux Leave a comment

It is quite some time now expects Dream released a dual DVB-S2 tuner for Dreambox. The DM7080 has a first step has been done, now the release of the tuner seems short to stand before.

Although there were as yet no official announcement of a dual DVB-S2 tuner of legend, but the latest driver updates have a little betrayed. So for the DM820 and DM7080 driver for a were resupplied "Si2166b Dual DVB This is a tuner of the company Silicon Labs, the (as just the Dreambox) can be integrated both in TV and set-top boxes. It now is every indication that it will be this act to the new Dual DVB-S2 tuner. This tuner supports all major standards, including DiSEqC 2.0 and Unicable course.

So far, had only the DM7080 as the first Dreambox ever an integrated dual DVB-S2 tuner. While this could theoretically be connected also in the smaller DM820, but the tuner was physically too big and does not really fit into the case of small Dreambox. The size of the tuner is incidentally also one reason why it has been installed in the DM7080 is turned by 90 degrees.

For the latest driver updates, however, indicate that legend scored the size under control.

The special feature of the dual tuner is that as well as the DM820 can easily turn into a twin receiver, which has a very compact design, and in both processing power and memory of the DM7080 in nothing stands by.

For the slightly more ambitious Dreambox users it is also more exciting! According to statements by Dream-developers, it will be possible to operate up to five built-in tuner. This can be achieved by two dual DVB-S2 tuner and a simple DVB-S2 tuner - three dual tuner can not in the DM7080 unfortunately due to hardware limitations are operated. More is possible only if external USB tuner can be connected. But even if it "only" 5 tuners - this should already be more than enough (if at all five terminals on the satellite dish are free).

Since the new tuner was not yet officially announced, but there are currently no information as to when this will be available at the dealership. However, it should not be too long, after all the drivers have already been published! More information can be found in Dreamboard and IHAD board .

Need some advice on this New Tuner. I just bought one from a satshop in Germany for my DB 800se BUT when I tried it out
the box did not see it at all...got a reading 'No Tuner' in Position 'A'. Now according to Dream Multimedia this Tuner is compatible
with Dreambox 800se, besides being good for their latest Models as well. The thing is that what I have is the first Model, that is to say not Rev 2,
but I would expect the Dream Multimedia would stipulate if this Tuner is only compatible with Rev2. Nothing was said if a new driver was needed
for it. All they said on their site was 'just plug it in' and the box will recognize it on power up.
which of course it didn't. Any suggestions?

Managed to get it configured. The reason was that I did not have the latest and correct Image. Fact is I didn't know that another one came out
just very lately. Now it's up and running. One thing guys this tuner is really sensitive and pulls in weak signals like a dream (pun intended)
I have it in the DBox with a 1.2 Dish and believe it or not it matches the signals I receive with the DBox I have with the 1.5 Dish on certain Sats.

Blind-Scan is not yet supported by this Tuner. It will be in later Images though.

After running some quite extensive tests on this Tuner I am finding that software wise it needs more looking into.
There are some channels in each Sat that are showing '0' db especially the HD ones whilst others are showing a much lower Snr.
I sent different channel lists to the box with the same results. Finally I replaced again the tuner with the previous one and
immediately everything returned back to normal. Although Sensitivity is better, but some things need ironing out, hopefully
in the next image that will come out. I emailed Dream Multimedia about it, will see what their opinion will be.

thank you for your reply
how did you find out better sensitivity of new tuner - less break ups ?
can we use It as two different tuners or they are limited to pol or band

Yes pulls in weaker signals without breakups. It gives better lock. As regards your second question I don't know cause I haven't tried it
in that manner yet, but I will let you know when I do.

So connected two independent motorized Dishes to inputs 1&2 of this new Tuner and after configuring both I
could record on one Sat whilst watching another. So yes it's like having two different Tuners.

Also Dream Multimedia answered back to my query as regards signal loss and stated that this anomaly will be fixed in their next update

I have used original Dream multimedia image and also newnigma latest image v.4.0.12 and then used online update to be able to get the necessary driver for the new Tuner. (Only for newnigma Image.)
