Does anyone here have advice for a newbie regarding installation of satellite in India? I don't want local DTH stations. I want all foreign stations.

Thanks.

Ive split your post off to start a new topic. The first thing you have to think about is EXACTLY what sort of programmes you want - most of the European services are out of range in India without very big dishes indeed. However theres still plenty of southern Asiatic channels available to you.

Thanks for your swift response @Analoguesat. I checked the website of Eutelsat and discovered that some satellites are available in India as illustrated on their map. However, I am not so akin to satellites. I am very much interested in any good programming covering the middle east, Oceania and anything outside India. As a matter of fact, all stations that are receivable excluding Indian stations. I would highly appreciate any specialist advice as to what equipments to buy. I checked the dreambox 800 HD and might opt for it if am properly tutored, as am very good in tactical fidgeting with electronic appliances, having used samsung and echostar in Northern Africa. Kindly tell me in details the instruments/equipments that I will be needing. Also, is it illegal to set up something like this in a rented apartment in Mumbai? I am tired of the local DTH stations. Fun is absolutely zero!

Help me out of this boredom dilemma.

Thanks mate.

That evry much depends on what your definition of "good" is? If you are expecting free mature content movies & sport forgert it - all those services are pay tv only.

Most of the European birds are only available in India on dishes around 8 feet ot more in diameter - 15-16 feet are needed for some of them in India. Totally impractical in a rented apartment!

Be aware that many services are pay only, and without subscriptions to them all you will see are blank screens...

if you install 8 feet to 10 feet dish you can get Nilesat and some European sats in Mumbai, but installing in Apartment will not be possible, so first enquire from your apartment owner than go for this setup

Thanks a lot people for your advice. I do know one or two things about pay channels and the cards like viacess, etc. I am equally ready to buy those, so long as I get enough channels. My interests are movies, adult channels, Christian Channels and of course, sports!

I would discuss with my society chairman if I could install it on the top of the tower.

Owing to that, what materials do I need to buy? 8 feet dish? C nd Ku Lnb? Dish motor/jack? A receiver like Echostar, Samsung or DM 800 HD? Cards like Viacess? I need full details, where to get them and where to hire an installation professional.

Once the system is working I would take my time to master the whole thing and turn it inside-out.

Help me people please!

I have already spoken to the chairman of my society and he promised to revert me. What are the cost constraints? Is it illegal in Mumbai to own such equipments?

King friends please educate me a little on this. Moderator, hope posting a website link is not an offense over here? If it is, kindly pardon me this once. I got this from lyngsat.com and I want to know if it means that the satellite stated is available in the countries shaded with either of the colors.

As you have discovered we do not allow live links to outside sites only internal links (pardoned)

I recommend you go and read the rules

The different maps indicate the different footprints (beams) transmitted by the satellite and their intended destination

Thanks mates for the response so far. This site has been really helpful with the likes of you assisting me tirelessly.

Kindly check the photo attached, and tell me if that satellite is receivable in India on C-band. That's for DSTV-Multichoice.

So, bearing Middle Eastern, Asian and African Channels in mind, what equipments should I buy? Is there any online access to sites for their descrambling cards? I have been to discover a site where they sell multi-CAM. So I would only need their card or other options available to grant me access to their site.

Just advice me the relevant at this initial stage.

Thanks mates!

Hi gilgee,

seems you are very new in Satellite stuff 6 Months back DSTV was there on "C" Band, now they moved there transponders to 36 East, which is not receivable in India, I have some news that you can get 36 East in Gujarat but they are using 12 feet dish to get that satellite.

only option for you is Nilesat @7West and other Middle East satellites whcih can be received in Mumbai, but you need 8 -10 feet + dish to get those.

let me know if you need more info

cheers,
MBD

Thanks a lot man for your response. That's basically what I have been waiting to hear.
Please give me more info about this and a list of other middle east satellites receivable in India. Also include the equipments I need to buy.
Another question I have been asking is, is it legal to own such? Is there any government regulation or restriction?

Waiting for your response.

Thx man.

Also tell other satellites that are not free to air and how to get their subscription cards if I happen to be interested.

You need atleast 10 feet good dish to get Middle East satellites, but as you told in your previous post you are staying in a Apartment so before initiating the Purchasing process please ask your Apartment people, because many Apartments do not provide Roof Access and installing a 10 feet a BIG NO.

Once you are ok I will guide you to the company which dish you can buy

Its legal to watch all channels in your house, untill you start distributing it to others
