Ok against better judgement of Topper, I decided to go for the Echostar 707.
Now I have just a small problem.

I need a card that I can use for the Viaccess reader in the box. Can anyone suggest what card is the best one, as I have no idea what I am looking for. Although I do enjoy my Sky channels, I would like to possibly keep these. However my sky card won't work in the box, which is a shame, cos i love the 707, but have had to switch back to the normal digibox just to be able to watch the tv.

If anyone else who has a 707 can tell me of their experiences with cam cards, that would be great.

Knowledge is power or so they say... think they may be right in my case.

Cheers in advance

For your sky card , you can use a Dragon cam.

As for the internal Viaccess cam, not sure If there are any files out for it any more.

There used to be a 6 in 1 file for a fun card, but have not seen any for a while. There might be something for the titanium card.

Well despite my reservations your impetuosity obviously got the better of you:)
Unfortunately from the information available to me you would appear to have bought a 707VA model, if that is the case then you will not be able to watch sky on that receiver, if you had bought one with CI common interface you could have bought a T/Rex or dragon cam and still watched sky on that box. As regards your Viaccess card I do not really understand what it is you are wanting to watch with that as I doubt it has anything to do with footballO-no

Would I be able to swap the viaccess cam for a different one, it should be too hard to do if it's pcmia.

I know a fair bit about computers but not about satellite systems.

As for what I will be wanting to watch, anything really.
Football is great for the kids, rugby, wrestling and any kind of motor sport perfect for the old man, especially the 3x stuff.

Me, i'll just be able for a load of music channels.. hehe
I never sit on a channel long enough to watch the whole program anyway, so it's more for the channel hopping than anything else.

Sounds stupid I know, but thats the sort of stuff I would like.

Presumably you mean pcmcia..... unfortunately (again) normally a receiver with embedded decryption uses an onboard chip and there is no pcmcia slot otherwise I would have suggested you change cams

I would recommend you read the computer forum on this board there's always someone needing an expert or two

Yep thats what i meant. I can never get the letters round the right way!

Oh, see I didn't know what the ART cards channels were. Now I know these work with the viacess. I just presumed being named ART it was for art buffs and the like... which I really couldn't be doing with, but if that is gonna give me something better than the FTA's currently available on a fixed LNB at the mo, then thats a bonus!

What you let him watch XXX stuff, and consider that sport eh, I've heard about women like you
:-rofl2 Of course I do, I don't mind watching it myself either, just don't tell anyone! Oops too late.:-doh2 Almost said watching myself! Good job it's taken me ages to figure the quote thingy!

Now for another mindless question... Is there someplace that you can get the software and the files needed to do these cards yourself. I have seen blank cards for sale, just not sure if they will do what I wanted. Or again, would it be simpler to change the cam and start from scratch?

Thank you for your support Topper:-worship

Well here we go.

Firstly ART is encrypted in Viaccess 2.5 which is totally secure as far as I am aware so it is subscription or nothing I'm afraid.

You basically have two ways to approach getting other channels, the first is to find a 'specialist' sat shop who will re-program for you when required but this could prove expensive. The second is to do as you are doing now and trying to find a DIY solution. Of course do not forget that you will need to buy a programmer to program your desired card and buy at least one card sothere is more expense. I did a simple tutorial to give you an idea of what may be involved but with your background you will not have any problems I am sure.
Another good site to delve into for card cam and programming info is here
Hope this helps

BTW I would get up and running with an FTA setup first to get a feel for what is out there before commiting to more money. But then that is me not you:cool:

I'm beginning to get the same feeling at the mo, basically i'm not gonna get my sky channels elsewhere, so i'm gonna have to keep the original box going just for them, but at least i might be able to get the package down a bit.

The other option I am looking at is going with your previous idea and getting myself a technomate tm1500 ok they may be a little more than i paid for the echo, but then i can always flog that at some point. But i got a feeling getting the bigger dish up and a motor may help a bit more before i make a final decision. As for this echostar, the only thing i can see it being good for at the mo is 24 hour mature content! Which should keep the old guy happy.
But then the amount I would pay for a card, spose I could sub to one of the suppliers on the sky network. (why do i begrudge paying sky money? mmm I wonder?)

It's tricky isn't it, getting into the whole "I want more channels" thing.

Cheers again for the advice, next time I think I'll listen. (Just being a typical woman)
