If you just wish to transfer a file or files to a known directory or directories, then start your web browser on your PC.
If your D/B has IP aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd
then type
ftp://aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd
into the top field of the browser
hit return
and a window with all your D/B directories will appear.
You can then transfer the files to the directories in the usual way.
If you are doing it from a Mac, like I do sometimes, then Apple have fixed their OS so this only allows read of the remote site and not write, even when you have the ID/PW of root/dreambox.
For Mac, I use the appication Transmit which is free if all you want to do is ship files. The full version costs some dollars.
