Technomate 1500+CI / 90cm REX / H-H Disec 1.2 Motor / Digital BSKYB / New to Sat systems.

Helloooo everyone,

I have a few questions maybe someone could help me with.
I want to get a motorised dish and sat recriver so i can pick up most/all of the channels/satellites over the uk+europe.

I have about £400 to spend, and i know i need a box with CI slots so i can start playing with some blank smarts card etc.
What would be the best set up i could get for this?

I'm in the south-west UK, what size of dish do i need?

Would it be worth getting the PCI sat/cam boards for my PC i have seen on sat-europa instead of a set top box?

Any help or pointers for a new'n would be great

Also in Sw, For £300 you get Motorised, CI, & 80 cm dish. Only upgrade would be 1m dish.

Check out what satellite magazine!!!!!

Well m8 never used a pc for satellite...I hear they are really good though. I use a motorised system that gives me what I want.....loads of football! I am sure someone will post you about the PC stuff though.

The PC card option is a good starter, but in my opinion, not as good practically as the standalone receiver. If you are computer savvy, then the Dreambox 5260, DiseqC motor and 90cm dish would bring a lot of interesting TV to your door and be frustrating and fun at the same time. :)

You could buy a box that doesn't need Cards/CAMs and does all the fancy work with software. DreamBox and Triple Dragon receivers or some of the other 'patched' boxes. For £400 you will have to balance what you spend on each item.

A good receiver
A dish of 80 - 90cm should get you most channels in south-west UK.
A motor (DiSEqC) to move the dish
A LNB of at least 0.6
Cable, connectors, mounts, etc
Borrow a satellite finder and ladders!.

If you 'do it yourself' you will need a lot of time to read up and be fairly good at DIY. If not, then you will have to include installation.

Some computer knowledge will be helpful whatever you choose and an Internet connection (which i take it you have to have posted hear!)

Would it be worth getting the PCI sat/cam boards for my PC i have seen on sat-europa instead of a set top box?

Leave this up to some other helpful person to answer. Will this not mean viewing on the PC screen)

Hi
You could have some fun with patchable receiver with CI slots, which would allow you to watch encrypted channels without needing to use programmers, Cams and cards. These could come later if you want to try your hand with programming.

If he's only got 400 quid to spend I'd go for a patchable receiver first though.

There seems to be a lot of patches for the technomate recievers, you don't need a cam or card,it's all in the software. They say they do conax as well.

You can read a lot about it if you register at satdudez-forumz.com

I have got a dish up for sky i'm taking that down, so i can use the coax cable, my dads a window cleaner, so got the ladders, and i have set up a few different sat dishes so i have a finder.

So i'm thinking a DiSEqC motor, a technomate STB and a basic 80cm dish.

Not sure about the LNB any advice? what do you mean by 0.6 is that the noise level rating

Go for Digital and should get more than enough viewing.

The LNB figures is the noise level, 0.6 is OK and should be cheaper that 0.3.

There has been a lot of debate on how they arrive at these figures, a bit like PC clock speeds.

You could try using the mini dish if you're strapped for cash bit of a waste of a motor though and you'll have to change the mount.

does this look like a good deal?

This deal is Ok but the DreamBox doesn't have a hard disk and does this price include delivery?

You could get one from Germany COD with a 120gig HD for around £250 plus delivery. Try here...

h**p://www.hm-sat.de/index2.html

I bought my motor of eBay (again from germany - new) with no problems for about £45. The mount you can get in Maplin for £13 pole B&Q LNB/Dish on eBay. Cable, F connectors also B&Q (large stores).

It's up to you one-stop-shop or shop-around.

If you get it from one shop you will have more comback if you hit any problems.

On that note, if you get a DreamBox be prepared for a very steep learning curve.
